Taylor Swift is defended by Whoopi Goldberg after Vance says she's not affected by high prices: "Shut up"
JD Vance was told by Whoopi Goldberg, "You don't know her money."
On Thursday, Whoopi Goldberg, a co-host of "The View," criticized Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, for stating that Taylor Swift would not be impacted by high prices or housing costs due to her billionaire status.
"JD, you have no idea what influences her or her financial situation! Goldberg exclaimed. Later, she apologized and told him to stop talking, saying, "I'm sorry, that was very impolite."
Swift, who backed Harris for president, was named a billionaire by Forbes in April, with an estimated fortune of $1.1 billion. Vance, Trump's running mate, mentioned Swift's wealth when responding to her endorsement of Harris.
"According to Vance, when grocery prices increase by 20%, it negatively impacts most Americans, but not Taylor Swift. Similarly, when housing prices become unaffordable, it does not affect billionaires like Taylor Swift, but it does impact middle-class Americans across the country."
During the break, the co-hosts talked about Swift's support for Harris.
Goldberg clarified that the reason he apologized was because he dislikes when people, especially pundits, tell him to be quiet. He takes back his statement, but the implication is that people should hush.
Sara Haines commended Taylor Swift for encouraging voters to educate themselves and register to vote.
Swift stated that she would be supporting Harris because "she champions the rights and causes I believe require a fierce advocate."
In a 2021 interview, Vance criticized Democrats and "childless cat ladies" who are unhappy with their lives, which has been used as political ammunition against him.
During the Video Music Awards on Wednesday, Swift, who backed Joe Biden in 2020 and has previously endorsed other Democrats, urged viewers to register and vote.
Please register to vote in the 2024 presidential election if you are over 18, she said.
On Thursday, Chelsea Clinton, a frequent guest of "The View" and who guest-hosted the show, mirrored Swift's plea for individuals to register to vote.
"Isn't it important that everyone votes? All legal-age individuals in this country should register to vote in order to strengthen our democracy and legitimize it," Clinton stated.
