This week, The Seattle Times faced criticism on social media for asserting that former President Trump made a false claim during the debate about Black Lives Matter/Antifa protesters taking over a "big portion" of Seattle during the 2020 riots.
The outlet criticized Trump for incorrectly stating the size of the CHOP protest in Seattle, which was only six city blocks and fluctuated.
The Seattle Times was criticized by X accounts for its fact-checking methods. Katie Daviscourt of Post Millennial commented, "It's disbelievable that this article was published in The Seattle Times. Shame on them."
In the debate, Trump highlighted the CHOP to expose the inconsistency of his opponents who have accused him of inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot but defended the riots that occurred in the summer.

Andy Ngo, a journalist, responded to the article by saying, "The Seattle Times is engaging in gaslighting with their coverage of the BLM-Antifa protests. I was present on the ground and witnessed firsthand the takeover of six city streets in a busy business and residential area by armed force. The extremists were members of BLM-Antifa groups, as reported by the Times at the time."
The chaos and anarchy that lasted for weeks resulted in the killing of people, and black teens were mistakenly labeled as white supremacists and shot.
The Seattle Times declined to respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
