Pelosi claims that 30% of Republicans are racist, sexist, and homophobic, stating that they would never vote Democrat.
Pelosi states that they have a different perspective on women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.
Nancy Pelosi, a former House Speaker from California, stated that approximately 30% of Republican voters will forever remain loyal to the Republican Party due to their perceived racism, sexism, and homophobia.
During her speech at the 2024 Texas Tribune Festival on Saturday, Pelosi was questioned by podcast host Kara Swisher about the close gap between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump in the presidential race.
Pelosi stated that about 30% of Republicans will never support Democrats due to their different views on women, people of color, LGBTQ, and other issues.
"You have wealthy individuals who do not want to pay taxes or have regulations on clean air and water. This presents a challenge. Although there are fewer very wealthy individuals, a significant amount of money is spent on campaigns."
"However, we must be as considerate and empathetic as possible, as there are individuals who are worried about globalization. They fear the factory nearby moving overseas, innovation, and the loss of jobs. Their father is a truck driver, and now they're concerned about the impact of automation on their own employment."
"Autonomous truck," Swisher interjected.
"Pelosi acknowledged the concerns of those who are worried about the future for themselves and their children due to innovation, globalization, and immigration."
Pelosi later revealed to Swisher that she believed Trump's support was due to his skill as a "snake oil salesman."
Nancy Pelosi's remarks echo Hillary Clinton's controversial "basket of deplorables" statement about Trump voters during the 2016 presidential campaign.
"At a campaign event, Clinton stated that half of Trump's supporters could be categorized as "a basket of deplorables." She described them as racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, and Islamophobic, among other things. Unfortunately, she added, Trump had elevated these individuals."
In the same discussion, Pelosi predicted that Trump would not participate in the ABC News Presidential Debate on Tuesday.
Pelosi joked about Trump showing up when asked for debate advice.
After predicting that Trump would appear at the debate, Swisher inquired, "Do you know something I don't know?"
"I know cowardice when I see it," Pelosi responded.
