Over a dozen times, a viral montage shows Tim Walz being mistakenly identified as a retired 'command sergeant major.'
Since being chosen as Kamala Harris' running mate, the Minnesota governor has been under close examination.
A video featuring Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz highlighted his long-standing falsehood about being a "retired command sergeant major."
Walz, who was chosen as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, has been subjected to intense scrutiny of his military service record in the media. Despite being a 24-year veteran of the Minnesota National Guard, Walz frequently referred to himself as a "retired command sergeant major." However, the Minnesota National Guard clarified that while Walz held the rank of command sergeant major, he actually retired as a Master Sergeant in 2005 for benefit purposes because he did not complete additional coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy.
He didn't stop others from calling him a "retired command sergeant major" even though he didn't correct them.
Since 2006, Walz's falsified ranking has been shown in a two-and-a-half minute montage posted Tuesday on X by NOVA Campaigns, with several instances involving the Minnesota governor.
Tim Walz is an everyday person who has achieved great success as a coach, teacher, and command sergeant major.
In a different video, Walz boasted about being the highest-ranking enlisted soldier to ever hold a seat in Congress.
""That was your rank," the interviewer replied."
"Command sergeant major," Walz quickly replied.
The compilation video was quickly shared among Walz's critics.
Dustin Grage, a Minnesota GOP strategist, responded with "This is textbook Stolen Valor."
Victor Joecks, a Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist, stated that if @JDVance had one instance of stolen valor, it would be the only topic mainstream media would discuss. However, @GovTimWalz repeatedly stole valor for nearly 20 years, and the press wants to move on. No way.
The Harris campaign updated Walz's bio on their website last week, changing the language from "retired Command Sergeant Major" to "served as a command sergeant major."
Walz has been under criticism for his retirement timing, as he is accused of evading deployment to Iraq, incorrectly stating that he served in Afghanistan, and misstating that he carried weapons of war "in war," which the Harris campaign claimed was a misstatement.
The Harris campaign stated that the Governor, in his 24 years of service, had carried, fired, and trained others to use weapons of war innumerable times. Governor Walz would never insult or undermine any American's service to this country, and he thanks Senator Vance for putting his life on the line for our country. It's the American way.
