In Austin, Texas, Maryland Governor Wes Moore conveys a message to fellow Democrats, who are witnessing a growing trend of their most devoted voter group aligning with former President Trump, according to polls.

Since his 2016 presidential run, Trump has experienced a rise in Black voter support, with a recent New York Times/Siena poll indicating a 10-point increase in his approval among this voting bloc.

During an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital at the 2024 Texas Tribune Festival, Moore was questioned about Trump's progress with Black voters and whether Vice President Harris and Democrats as a whole should be concerned.

"Moore emphasized to Planet Chronicle Digital that earning support from every voter, especially Black voters, is crucial. He explained that Black voters and their groups are not homogeneous and cannot be won over solely based on political affiliation or appearance. To gain their support, candidates must focus on issues that matter to the Black community, such as access to work, wages, and wealth."

Moore emphasized that Harris' "opportunity economy" proposals could attract Black voters and highlighted that both she and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, were actively engaging with Black communities to secure their support.

Moore suggested that the focus is not on whether Black voters switch parties but rather on whether they go out and vote or stay home, while he remained silent on why he thought Trump was becoming more appealing to Black voters.

"Moore stated that it is crucial not to underestimate voters and that the way we engage with them should not be taken for granted. He emphasized that there are many voters who are undecided and that this election will be determined by those who choose to vote and those who choose not to. As a result, Moore believes that there is a significant amount of work that needs to be done."

Moore, a rising star in the Democratic Party, was questioned about his views on masculinity, a topic that has been extensively covered in the media regarding the 2024 race and how both the Trump-Vance and Harris-Walz tickets appeal to male voters.

"Moore stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that he is deeply proud of the person he is, which includes enjoying shotgunning beers before football games, watching sports, and playing football. Additionally, he expressed his support for the growth of women in elected leadership, stating that he believes it is important to break free from limiting ourselves in these areas."

Johns Hopkins University alumnus Moore, a dedicated Baltimore Ravens fan and U.S. Army veteran, excelled as a senior wide receiver, averaging 25.2 yards per reception.

Despite his traditionally masculine credentials, the governor believes that men should not be stereotyped.

""We must not dehumanize or emasculate the growth of our young boys as they become men. Supporting women in leadership roles does not diminish our masculinity, and women supporting men in roles does not diminish their femininity," Moore stated."

"Being who you are should be enough, and that's how you should be supported," Moore stated.
