Kirby on Putin's assassination being called a "success": No one is celebrating here.
The multi-nation prisoner exchange is a topic of concern for Kirby regarding heat.
John Kirby, the White House National Security Council communications adviser, faced criticism regarding the release of Russian assassin Vadim Krasikov, who was freed in exchange for three Americans and other political dissidents held by Russia.
On Thursday, three individuals - former Marine Paul Whelan, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, and Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva - were released in a multi-nation prisoner swap, marking the largest exchange between the United States and Russia since the end of the Cold War.
In 2019, Krasikov was convicted of murder and was released by Germany in a prisoner swap. Upon his return to Moscow, he was seen embracing Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Baier, who referenced Newsweek, there has been criticism that the prisoner exchange has been viewed as a "success" for Vladimir Putin.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz displayed a lot of moral courage in deciding to release Krasikov, as Kirby told Planet Chronicle chief political anchor Bret Baier on "Special Report."
The president made a tough call to release all individuals involved in the negotiations, including Americans, which resulted in nobody being delighted or doing backflips over the outcome.

Kirby stated that it is not uncommon for Putin and Russia to "incorrectly" hold Americans captive as a means of negotiating in the future.

Marc Fogel, an American teacher sentenced to 14 years in a Russian penal colony for possessing medical marijuana, is also being worked on for release by the White House.
"Ongoing conversations are taking place with the Russians to try to bring Mr. Fogel back home, and we will persist in our efforts, the official stated to Baier."
"We will do everything possible to bring back every American who has been wrongfully detained overseas, regardless of their citizenship status."
