John McAfee's Mysterious Death: A Look into the Final Days of the Tech Pioneer
In the new Fox Nation docuseries, critics, including McAfee's wife, voice their opinions.
The docuseries "The Last Days of John McAfee" by Fox Nation explores the unresolved mysteries surrounding the demise of British-American tech billionaire John McAfee.
In 2021, the renowned developer of McAfee antivirus software was awaiting extradition to the US when he was discovered dead in a Spanish prison cell. Despite officials stating that he took his own life, many people remained skeptical.
According to Janice, John's wife, she believes that he was drugged or injected with something to prevent him from fighting back, and then he was propped up.
McAfee, who faced tax evasion charges from the U.S. Department of Justice, went on the run, claiming the investigations were politically motivated. He also claimed to have information on high-level elites and believed the U.S. government was after him.
According to attorney Andrew Gordon, who represented McAfee after his IRS indictment, McAfee believed that U.S. government officials were targeting him and feared for his life.
If John had died by suicide, he would have said on Twitter that it wasn't suicide, and so you have someone who is saying, "I want to live, I am defending my case." You must take this seriously.
In October 2020, McAfee was arrested at Barcelona's international airport and has been in jail awaiting a court decision on his extradition to the United States to face charges of evading more than $4 million in taxes. Prosecutors in Tennessee are seeking up to 30 years of imprisonment.
Hours after extradition was approved, he was discovered dead in his jail cell.
Nishay Sanan, one of McAfee's attorneys, stated that he was placed in an isolated prison far away from any significant towns and where Spanish was not widely spoken.
"I think this was intentional."
McAfee CEO Jimmy Watson was taken aback by the news of McAfee's arrest, reliving the tense moments that followed.
"John McAfee's arrest in Spain marked the end of Watson's time as CEO of the company, as he was walking down the street when the FBI and Dallas SWAT team arrived, guns drawn, and arrested him."
""Jimmy, you don't know what we know about John because if you did, you would understand. He is one evil mothereffer," they said. When they said that to me, I realized that there was a whole different John McAfee that I didn't know."
McAfee, who ran for U.S. president as a Libertarian candidate in 2016 and came in third in the party’s primary, argued that the charges against him were politically motivated and that he would spend the rest of his life in prison if he returned to the United States.
The promoter of eccentric cryptocurrency and opponent of taxes had a history of legal issues that extended from the US to Central America and the Caribbean.
Before the 2008 financial crisis, he was worth more than $100 million due to his investments.
