JD Vance responds to criticism of Trump after being chosen as VP: "I was misled by the media's falsehoods and misrepresentations."
The Ohio senator previously referred to his running mate as a "noxious" and "cynical a--hole."
Ohio Senator JD Vance stated on Monday that he is attempting to "enjoy the ride" after former President Trump announced on Truth Social that he had chosen him as his 2024 running mate.
Vance stated on Planet Chronicle that Trump contacted him and proposed him for the vice presidential nominee position, believing that he could aid him in securing victory in November.
"On "Hannity," Vance recounted that Trump had said, "I think you're the guy who could help me in the best way. You can help me govern, you can help me win, you can help me in some of these Midwestern states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and so forth.""
Since Trump endorsed him in the 2022 Ohio Senate race, Vance has grown closer to the former president, a move he believes helped him secure his victory against Ryan.
"I couldn't have won that race without Donald Trump's endorsement, and his trust and partnership since then have been highly valuable to me," he stated.
Vance, a former vocal critic of Trump, admitted that his views on the former president have evolved over the past few years.
"The freshman senator stated that he was initially skeptical of Donald Trump in 2016, but after seeing President Trump's accomplishments, he changed his mind. He believes that Trump's delivery of peace and prosperity likely changed the minds of many Americans as well."
In a 2016 interview with former CBS anchor Charlie Rose, Vance stated that he is a "Never Trump guy" and that he has never liked him.
In the 2016 presidential election, the Marine veteran was critical of Trump, but now he fiercely supports him.
Vance admitted that he fell for the media's misinformation and believed that the individual was a grave danger to democracy. He later realized it was all a joke.
He stated that he believes President Biden is attempting to "undermine" the American rule of law and ultimately thinks Trump did an excellent job as president.
"It's a good thing to admit when you were wrong about someone, even if you initially thought otherwise," he stated.
The former Silicon Valley venture capitalist expressed his gratitude to Hannity for being selected as VP and is eager to begin advocating for a second Trump term.
"I'm so grounded, man. I'm a husband and a dad first, and I'm excited to spend a few hours with my wife and kids today. We've got a 7-year-old, a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old. Things are crazy, and things are way different, but I'm still a husband and a dad first," Vance said. "And that's going to make me a very happy guy over the next four months."
The RNC in Milwaukee will feature the 2024 GOP vice presidential nominee delivering remarks on day three.
