James Carville advises Harris to diverge from Biden on crucial matters, hold a press conference.
Trump and Harris are set to clash in a debate on September 10th.
James Carville, a political analyst and Democratic strategist, advised Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday to differentiate herself from President Biden in order to establish herself as a fresh and dynamic candidate, and also urged her to end her news conference silence.
Ms. Harris must break from Mr. Biden on policy priorities to become a certified fresh candidate, according to Carville's guest essay in The New York Times.
In June, Carville was among the most vocal Democrats calling for Biden to resign, particularly following his poor debate performance against former President Trump.
In order to defeat Trump in November, Carville advised Harris to let him be his own worst enemy during their upcoming debate.
Carville wrote that in the Sept. 10 debate, Ms. Harris must allow Trump to be Trump, which his campaign fears the most.
"He suggested that she should encourage him to speak over her, not just let him but provoke him into discussing insane conspiracy theories about the previous election. She should use her sense of humor to irritate him and demonstrate that he's not affecting her. Additionally, she should embrace personal attacks as a symbol of her strength."
Carville advised Harris to publicly disagree with Biden on policy during a news conference.
"Carville advised that in order to address the criticism of a lack of access, a news conference should be held after the rally to discuss the new way forward policies. He emphasized the importance of embracing differences with the president, rather than running from them."
To succeed, Harris must demonstrate a "growth mind-set" and openly challenge her past policy stances, particularly regarding climate change, semiautomatic rifle buyback programs, and healthcare.
