Jake Tapper criticizes Kamala Harris for evading debate responses: "Not the question"
'Generally, the sitting vice president returned to using talking points.'
During Tuesday's ABC presidential debate, CNN host Jake Tapper confronted Vice President Kamala Harris for not responding to direct questions.
Tapper accused Harris of being evasive about her policies during the Wednesday debate, starting with a question about the economy.
"After playing a clip of her response, Tapper stated, 'It went on from there.' Despite the economy being the top concern in the country, the sitting vice president mainly focused on discussing her policy proposals. Even Harris's allies agree that she needs to address more specifically what she will do for Americans if elected."
The host danced around another significant question, stating "she also evaded" on the edge.
Harris stated that she is the only person on the stage who has prosecuted transnational criminal organizations for the trafficking of guns, drugs, and human beings when asked how she might have managed the crisis better than President Biden.
Tapper remarked that her statement was not the question.
Harris shared a clip of her response to being asked how she would break through the Israel-Hamas war stalemate.
Harri stated that a ceasefire agreement is necessary, along with the release of hostages, and they will continue to work tirelessly towards this goal.
"OK. But again, how?" Tapper asked.
The Harris campaign was contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital for comment. Tapper, a staunch critic of Trump, emphasized that he was not comparing the two candidates.
He stated that although we are not equating the two performances last night, it is true that at times both Trump and Harris fell short of providing clear answers about how they would run the country.
The presidential debate run by ABC has been criticized for its moderators' perceived hostility towards Trump and leniency towards Harris.
In June, the CNN Presidential Debate between Trump and Biden was co-moderated by Tapper. Biden's poor performance that night ultimately resulted in him being pushed out of the nomination by party leaders in July.
