Is Kamala Harris' focus on price gouging a 'strength' or 'weakness'? She's 'in power right now'.
Paula Reid of CNN suggested that Kamala Harris' economic policies could be considered a "strength" because she is currently the Vice President.
On Tuesday, a CNN panel stated that Kamala Harris's ties to the Biden administration were a "weakness" for her as vice president, as she continues to prioritize price gouging and reducing the cost of housing in her campaign.
Wall Street Journal reporter Annie Linskey stated that if there is indeed price gouging as mentioned in the new Harris ad, someone in the White House could be taking action to address the issue.
On Monday, President Biden resumed his campaign trail, while the panel examined an ad that claimed Harris would reduce grocery prices by enforcing stricter regulations on price gouging.
She must distance herself from the president or address the problems Americans are facing, but she currently holds power.
GOP criticisms of Harris' messaging were targeted by Democratic National Committee adviser Brad Woodhouse, who argued that her focus on price gouging reflected her background as a prosecutor. Woodhouse added that Harris aimed to tackle "corporate grocery stores and speculators in the real estate market."
Biden was crucial in motivating the Democratic base to vote for Harris, as Woodhouse emphasized. The president shared the stage with Harris at a Labor Day event in Pittsburgh.
Paula Reid of CNN stated that Harris' relationship with Biden was a disadvantage for her campaign because the public is displeased with the economy.
A former Trump campaign adviser, Erin Perinne, stated that it was effortless for the former president to criticize Vice President Harris in this manner.
Perinne stated that Kamala Harris is hindering progress by sitting in the White House and not working to get things done. If she can deliver today, why wait until tomorrow? This is ineffective leadership. Republicans have every reason and ability to say that the country's direction is being determined by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. The reason things are more expensive today is due to the actions of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Linskey argued that Harris' emphasis on price gouging may not be the root cause, as economists suggest.
"Grocery prices have increased, which is true. However, this issue may not be a significant problem. Yet, it is popular among voters. Additionally, it provides Democrats with a new enemy," she stated.
She stated that when she hears about price gouging, she believes that it is not the main reason for the rise in prices. Instead, there are other factors that have contributed to the increase in prices.
