In Pennsylvania bakery, Trump cookies outperform Harris' by thousands: 'The difference is astounding'
The bakery owner revealed that Trump cookies are surpassing both his opponent's sales and the 2020 numbers.
In preparation for the Pennsylvania debate on Tuesday night, a family-owned bakery in Hatboro is utilizing cookies to measure public support for the presidential candidates.
The bakery's cookies have been popular, with 4228 sold supporting former President Trump and only 369 sold supporting Vice President Kamala Harris.
Kathleen Lochel, owner of Lochel's Bakery in Philadelphia, has been selling cookies themed around presidential elections for years, as discussed with CBS News Philadelphia's Ross DiMattei.
Every sale is marked off. Currently, Trump is leading significantly, with a margin that is astonishing compared to the 2020 numbers, year to date.
"Is the margin between Trump and Harris cookies in the Philadelphia suburb greater this year compared to 4 years ago?" DiMattei inquired, impressed by the significant difference in their performance. He later proposed, "Perhaps it's due to your location, but you've also observed strong support for the former president."
"Montgomery County is a blue county, but at least a third of the cookies have been shipped across the United States."
DiMattei stated, "I want to quickly address the keyboard warriors who have been receiving hate. However, it's important to note that this is not a politically driven issue, but rather a business matter."
"Business is all about creativity and thinking outside the box to attract new customers. That's why we're excited to sell these products, which require a lot of imagination and innovation. We're shipping all over the United States right now, so we need to be creative in our marketing efforts to reach our target audience," she said.
"It's amazing that we, as a small business, can produce and sell this product, and see customers from all over buying it," she said.
The bakery has repeatedly emphasized that this project is lighthearted, as evidenced by their recent social media post that reads "Cookie tally? Keep calm, it's just a cookie."
Since 2012, the bakery has been hosting an informal poll that accurately predicts the outcome of three of the last four elections. However, their winning streak came to an end in 2020 when the final cookie tally put Trump in the lead with 31,804 cookies over Biden's 5,750.
