In a DNC interview, the ABC presidential debate moderator accused Trump of having ties to the KKK.
On September 10, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will be co-moderated by ABC News' Linsey Davis in a presidential debate.
During an interview Monday night, ABC News anchor and presidential debate moderator Linsey Davis mirrored the talking points of the Harris-Walz campaign by linking former President Trump to the KKK.
During the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Davis discussed with Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer an upcoming campaign event that Trump planned to hold in Howell.
"Former President Donald Trump is set to campaign in Howell, Michigan, tomorrow. A month ago, KKK protesters marched in the streets of Howell wearing white robes and advocating for Trump's support. Do you have any thoughts on this connection, especially considering his visit to Howell tomorrow?" Davis inquired.
Whitmer replied, "Anyone with a bit of research would have said that it's a bad idea, considering the optics. You're appearing at the same location as the KKK at the same time in Michigan."
She added, 'This is a troubling strategy that we see from the other side to divide us and scare us, and stoke fear and anger. In contrast, this is a gathering of joyful, happy warriors. We are rolling up our sleeves, doing the work, and taking no one and no vote for granted.'
Alyssa Bradley, Michigan communications director for Harris, echoed Trump's event on Saturday with her statement.
Bradley stated that the individuals who marched in Trump's name in Howell last month, who are racist and White supremacists, have all watched him praise Hitler, defend neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, and tell far-right extremists to "stand back and stand by." Trump's actions have encouraged them, and Michiganders can expect more of the same when he comes to town next week.
In 2021, President Biden visited Howell, Michigan, to promote his "Build Back Better" agenda, despite the Harris campaign previously linking the location to White supremacists and the KKK.
On September 10, ABC News will host a presidential debate between Harris and Trump, with David Muir and Davis moderating.
