Illinois Gov. Pritzker advises against underestimating Trump in the debate against Harris.
On September 10, Trump and Harris will engage in a debate.
On Monday, J.B. Pritzker, the Governor of Illinois, advised Vice President Kamala Harris to exercise caution before engaging in a debate with former President Trump.
"Pritzker advised CNN's Sara Sidner that nobody should underestimate Donald Trump, as he has won a few debates and was widely considered to have won the debate against President Biden a few months ago."
On September 10, ABC News will host a debate between Trump and Harris.
"Pritzker stated that Trump won the debate against Hillary Clinton during his first run and should not be underestimated."
While Harris is a "tremendous person with great capability" and communication ability, Pritzker believes that might not be enough to defeat Trump.
"Pritzker stated that Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are significant rivals with very different points of view, and it is not accurate to assume that Harris has a greater ability to win a debate than Trump."
The governor emphasized the importance of conveying those perspectives and avoiding confusion about Donald Trump for Kamala Harris.
Harris' team has made a notable change to the rules regarding microphones during the upcoming debate on Sept. 10, reversing a previously agreed-upon arrangement to have muted mics during the opposing candidate's speaking time.
Despite agreeing to the rules for the upcoming debate, the Harris campaign has not yet signed off on them. These rules were intended to reflect the guidelines established for the CNN debate between former President Trump and President Biden in June.
On Thursday, Brian Fallon, a spokesperson for Harris, wrote on an X post that the memo sent by ABC is a draft set of rules that both campaigns need to sign off on and indicate agreement. However, they have not done so because they believe both candidates have expressed a clear desire to have hot mics. Fallon also expressed confusion as to why Trump staff is overruling their principal, who should be capable of making up their own mind.
