'Harris won Democratic nomination through an 'open process,' Pelosi asserts'
Pelosi stated that others could have obtained the same opportunity as those who did not understand.
On Monday's episode of "The View," Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., stated that the process for selecting the Democratic nominee was "open" and anyone could have been chosen after President Biden withdrew from the race.
Pelosi played a key role in pushing Biden to resign after his poor debate performance in June, which has created tension between her and the president.
"Some people believe that there are many hurt feelings due to your significant involvement in his decision to step down, which was a selfless but difficult choice for him. Ana Navarro, a co-host and supporter of Harris, stated this. Have you spoken to Biden, and how do you respond to those close to his team who are upset with you?"
"Pelosi responded with a "No." She clarified that her statement was about the need for a better campaign strategy, not about the president not running. She explained that she didn't see a path to victory and emphasized that it was not about the president personally. Pelosi then praised the president's patriotism, selflessness, and leadership, calling him the most consequential president of modern times."
The process of coronating Harris as the new presidential candidate without allowing voters to decide was criticized by Democrats, as Navarro also pointed out.
The co-host asked Pelosi, "Initially, you wanted an open process, but you didn't endorse Kamala. You knew her well from San Francisco, yet you wanted an open process. Do you think now, looking back, that was a mistake?"
"Pelosi emphasized that the process was open, and anyone could have participated. She won, and a respected president endorsed her. However, people do not comprehend that others could have also joined. Pelosi successfully secured the position, demonstrating political acumen."
Within 24 hours, I was one of the earliest endorsers of any of the leaders.
