Harris criticized for her recent commentary on the "duality" of democracy: "This is why she struggles to stick to her talking points"
Harris characterized democracy as both robust and vulnerable.
On Sunday, Kamala Harris faced criticism on social media for her lengthy speech on the "nature of democracy" at a campaign event in Pennsylvania.
At an event in Rochester on Sunday, Harris spoke to supporters alongside her running mate Tim Walz before heading to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention. During the event, Harris gave an impromptu lecture about the dual nature of democracy, describing it as both "powerful" and "vulnerable."
Our election is about recognizing the significance of our country as a democracy in the global community," Harris stated. "As a democracy, we possess both power and vulnerability. On one hand, we have the strength to protect our people's rights. On the other hand, we must be cautious not to undermine the very principles that give us our strength.
"She continued, 'And incredibly fragile, it is only as strong as our willingness to fight for it. That's what this campaign is about.'"
An online clip of a comment made by Vice President Kamala Harris went viral, sparking renewed criticism of her for her rambling statements that have been labeled "word salads." Republicans argued that the comment provided a glimpse into the true Harris when she is not using a teleprompter.
Clay Travis of Outkick.com wrote that Kamala Harris was removed from the teleprompter during a speech in Pennsylvania, and the outcome was not successful.
"Buck Sexton on X wrote that Kamala is uniquely awful, lacking smarts, charm, and talent. As more voters hear her voice, they'll be less likely to support her. The future looks bleak. Stay hopeful."
Nick Sortor, a video journalist, responded to the question about Comrade Kamala's inability to speak off script by saying, "Holy crap, anybody know what the HELL she's talking about here?!!"
"Is this the best the Democrats could achieve?" he wrote in a follow-up post.
Is this a Harris and Walz rally or a 10 year old's birthday party? No free concert and she draws dozens off fans.
Alec Lace, the podcast host, referred to Harris as "The Wizard of Word Salad," stating that the reason they don't allow Kamala Harris to speak off-teleprompter is because of her tendency to use complex language.
J.D. Haltigan, an assistant professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, responded to the clip by stating, "The incoherence displayed by the speaker is utterly delusional. At least when Trump speaks, there is some semblance of coherence. This is merely a jumbled mess of words."
Why has Kamala been kept away from interviews and only in front of teleprompters, according to GOP communicator Matt Whitlock?
In October 2022, Harris stated that democracy has a duality, being both strong and fragile. He emphasized that the power given to the people is what makes it strong, but it is only as strong as our willingness to fight for it. Harris expressed hope that we are prepared to do so.
Since becoming the Democratic Party's nominee, Harris has faced criticism for not holding a formal press conference or regularly engaging with the media. In the 30 days since Biden endorsed her and she officially clinched the nomination in a "virtual" roll-call vote, she has not sat for a formal sit-down interview with the media.
