Fetterman reaffirms support for Biden amid calls for withdrawal: "He's been a great president"
In politics, loyalty is one of the last valuable assets, according to Fetterman.
After receiving criticism for his debate performance, Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., reaffirmed his support for President Biden.
On "Jesse Watters Primetime" on Wednesday, Fetterman acknowledged that Biden's sharpness has declined, but he remains committed to supporting the president.
"I don't think I've seen anything that makes me want to change my belief in him being a great president," he said. "I'm not blindly following him, but I fundamentally believe he's been a great president and I believe ultimately he can prevail."
Biden has rejected suggestions from his own party to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, asserting in a letter to House Democrats on Monday that he is the strongest contender capable of defeating former President Trump in the upcoming election.
According to The Associated Press, nine House Democrats and one Democratic senator have urged Biden to abandon his 2024 presidential campaign following his poor showing at the CNN debate in Atlanta.
Watters admitted to Fetterman that he only watched parts of the Biden-Trump debate, but it was clear that the president had a "bad night."
He spent a year with Biden at various events in Pennsylvania and found him to be "normal" and "engaged."
Fetterman emphasized that Joe Biden has done a great job as president and that he will remain loyal to him, despite his popularity.
The current Braddock mayor stated that at the conclusion of the day, discussions about Biden stepping down are unnecessary and debates are not significant.
"Joe Biden will be our leader, despite the challenges and uncertainties, and it will be a close call," Biden said to Watters.
"I stand firm in my belief that our president has been great, despite some disagreements. Loyalty, I believe, is the last currency in this business."
