Facebook faces another complaint from a conservative college over alleged bias in its treatment.
Weeks ago, Hillsdale College's online course page was mistakenly removed.
One private college in Michigan claims that Facebook is taking action once more.
On Thursday, Hillsdale College's online courses page was shut down by Facebook, the same day the school launched a course critical of communism and Marxism.
"Hillsdale College warns Facebook users of potential drug dealer associations with their online courses page. Despite not dealing in narcotics, the courses are mind-altering and the first one is free. All subsequent courses are also free."
An error occurred, which has since been rectified, as stated by Meta to Planet Chronicle Digital.
The Hillsdale Facebook course page, with over 300,000 followers, was shut down on Aug. 19 after launching a course on cultural Marxism that was critical of its impact on "racial tensions, radical feminism, transgender ideology, open borders, fiscal irresponsibility, the unequal protection of the laws, and the loss of our basic rights," as described in the course.
""Our Facebook page has been offline since Monday night, coinciding with the launch of our new course on Marxism, socialism, and communism. We were informed by @Meta that Facebook is preventing access to our course on repressive ideologies, and these issues typically resolve within 24 hours," the school stated."
The school launched a course on Tuesday morning, but Facebook ads for the course had been running in advance. The ads were taken down Monday night, along with the page and all other ad content from the college's online courses page, which the school said damaged the reach of the course because the day of the launch is crucial for enrollment.
According to Emily Stack Davis, Hillsdale College's executive director of media relations and communications, the online course page was taken down for almost 100 hours due to ads mistakenly flagged on Facebook. However, those same ads had been running unchanged for over a year. Additionally, the ads were not even displayed on the page that was taken down.
"Our new course on Marxism, socialism, and communism was launched at the same time as the censorship on our main Hillsdale College page."
Before receiving the inquiry, the page was mistakenly taken down and later restored.
In Hillsdale, Michigan, there is a private, conservative Christian liberal arts college known as Hillsdale College. This institution provides a classical education, which has gained popularity among U.S. colleges and universities that have been criticized for promoting "woke" ideologies and curricula.
