At the Democratic National Convention's Black Caucus event on Wednesday, a speaker urged the audience to behave correctly until the election.
On Day 3 of the DNC in Chicago, the "Make it Plain" podcast was hosted by Rev. Mark Thompson, who moderated a Black Caucus panel.
He instructed his fellow citizens to restrain themselves until the election's outcome.
"We have 70 days to behave correctly, y'all. Now, after 70 days, we can return to our usual craziness, right?" he said.
Thompson responded to the off-camera paraphrase of the DNC chant "We’re not going back" by saying, "I hope not, but for those who need to, just wait 70 days to return, please. Be well."
Thompson has been seen with Louis Farrakhan, a notorious antisemite and leader of the Nation of Islam, who has made derogatory comments about Jewish people, praised Hitler, and has become a highly controversial religious figure in the US.
Thompson thanked Farrakhan in a 2015 tweet for allowing him to serve their people together on his show.
On Wednesday at the event, Thompson emphasized the significance of "Black men remaining conscious and vigilant."
"We are the most targeted on social media for disinformation and misinformation, resulting in a lot of confusion. There is a deliberate effort to pit Black men against Black women and vice versa, which we must combat."
What are some of the ways you are informing, educating, organizing, and mobilizing Black men, and what are some of the challenges we need to overcome together?
