Dana White and Dave Portnoy increase support for the family of a fallen NY officer through Tunnel to Towers.
In Syracuse, New York, two law enforcement officers, Deputy Michael Hoosock and Officer Michael Jensen, were tragically killed in an ambush.
Dana White is joining forces with Tunnel to Towers and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy to support the family of a fallen law enforcement officer.
Frank Siller and I are back in the seat again, just two or three weeks after we were here before, but the support is great. We don't want to have to keep being here, but it's great to see when that happens. Again, nobody wants to be in these situations, Portnoy said on "Fox & Friends" Thursday, announcing a contribution of $100,000 from White.
An ambush resulted in the death of Onondaga Sheriff's Deputy Michael Hoosock and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen in New York.
On Monday, two law enforcement officials were fatally shot by a suspect who fired outside a residence.
Both the officers and the suspect, later identified as Christopher Murphy, 33, were transported to Upstate University Hospital for urgent medical care but unfortunately passed away from their injuries.
Hoosock leaves behind his wife, Kate, and three young children.
Frank Siller, founder of Tunnel to Towers, stated on Thursday that what they told the fallen heroes' families is the same message they convey to all heroes who died in the line of duty and left behind children, which is that they will pay off their mortgages.
Tunnel to Towers is benefiting from Barstool Sports' sale of Onondaga County Sheriff tees, with Portnoy personally matching the sales from the Barstool tees.
Frank has been great, and we're partnering with Tunnel to Towers to ensure we get the money we need. We've raised about $800,000 for this family, and it's surreal to be back in this spot, but we appreciate all the support. However, every cent counts because these families need it, Portnoy said.
"Although money won't resolve the problem, it's still a tragedy. We'll do our best to be present."
Recently, Tunnel to Towers and Barstool Sports provided support to the family of NYPD officer Jonathan Diller, who was fatally shot while on duty in Queens.
Siller highlighted on "Fox & Friends" that despite the organization's efforts, there are still many law enforcement families in need of assistance, as there has been a 40% increase in police officer deaths this year.
"Police officers and law enforcement personnel do not join their profession for financial gain, but rather because they are born with a desire to protect others. Now, we must protect their families when something like this happens. Unlike many people, these officers do not have bank accounts to pay off their mortgages, and the help provided by organizations like Tunnel to Towers is crucial in taking care of the families left behind."
