Congressman criticizes CNN for not following up on Harris interview and says it highlights Americans' 'trust issue' with VP.
Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Penn., stated that Harris and CNN did not delve into any significant details during Thursday's interview.
On Thursday, Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Penn., criticized both Vice President Kamala Harris and CNN for not providing substantial answers about her policy in an interview.
On "CNN This Morning," Meuser criticized the network for not adequately questioning Harris about her recent flip-flops on key issues, allowing her to avoid providing detailed answers and leaving voters uncertain about her stance.
The lawmaker stated that the American people have a genuine trust problem with the vice president.
During an interview with CNN anchor Manu Raju, Meuser stated that he believed Harris managed to avoid a disaster, but felt that Dana Bash did not hold her accountable enough.
"Some follow-up questions were absent, particularly regarding fracking."
Harris' stance on fracking has been closely examined during her 2024 presidential campaign, as she previously advocated for a ban on fracking in her 2019 campaign and has since stated that she will not enact a ban if elected.
In her interview on Thursday, Harris reiterated that she would not ban fracking as president, stating, "I made that clear on the debate stage in 2020 and as vice president, I did not ban fracking."
In the 2020 vice presidential debate, Harris stated that Biden would not end fracking, but did not disclose her own stance.
Daniel Dale, CNN's fact-checker, criticized the vice president regarding that topic after the interview.
Meuser stated that both Harris and the network failed to adequately address crucial issues, such as American energy and border security.
"The largest issue, in my opinion, is the lack of detail. They discussed energy for only 30 seconds, covered the border for two and a half minutes, and spent only two minutes on the economy."
Some view the transformation of Harris as a "big con" despite the lawmaker's assertion that it is "clearly" a "makeover."
Raju inquired about Harris's lead in Pennsylvania polls, to which Meuser responded that it's only true because she hasn't conducted any interviews except for the CNN one.
Michael Smerconish of CNN stated that Kamala Harris' interview did not contribute anything new to the discussion.
"The headline today is that there is no headline, as there was no news made from the event other than the fact that it occurred after her being the Democratic candidate for about a month."
The host informed Raju that Harris successfully carried out the interview without any noticeable mistakes. "She accomplished her goal, which is that we are not currently discussing a viral video. There was no stumble that everyone is highlighting today. This is a positive outcome for her."
