CNN host taken aback by Harris' 2019 policy proposals, including decriminalizing drugs and funding migrant sex changes.
In 2019, Harris reportedly indicated support for using taxpayer funds to cover gender surgeries for undocumented individuals.
CNN anchor Erin Burnett was surprised by some of the progressive policy views that Vice President Kamala Harris held as a presidential candidate in 2019.
On Monday night, CNN senior Andrew Kaczynski interviewed Kamala Harris about a 2019 ACLU candidate questionnaire that exposed her support for far-left policies, including abolishing the detention of illegal immigrants at the border and seeking taxpayer funding for migrants' gender-transitioning medical procedures.
"She actually said she supported taxpayer-funded gender transition surgeries for detained migrants?" Burnett questioned, her tone conveying disbelief.
Kaczynzski stated to Burnett that the 2019 questionnaire, which his team recently uncovered and reported on, provided an "interesting snapshot in time" of the 2019 Democratic presidential primary, particularly when Harris was attempting to position herself to the left of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
Burnett was informed by the reporter that the presidential candidate's response to the questionnaire regarding immigration included a statement about ending ICE funding and promoting gender operations for illegal immigrants.
Kaczynski responded to Burnett's surprise about Harris supporting taxpayer dollars for migrants' gender transitions by stating that Harris had both written and answered affirmatively when asked about it, and also supported it for federal prisoners.
Harris made a commitment to reducing immigration detention by 50%, shutting down all family and private facilities, and cutting funding for ICE, ultimately ending ICE detainers with local law enforcement.
Burnett expressed incredulity towards the policy positions, stating, "It's hard to believe that taxpayer funding for gender transitions would be considered for detained migrants, yet as you say, it has been written and verbally."
The Harris campaign has promised to secure the southern border if she becomes the 2024 presidential candidate, but her left-leaning positions are far from what she has stated. Last month, the campaign said it would prioritize detention and allocate sufficient resources to enforce laws for those who pose a threat to public safety and national security at the border.
The Harris administration was criticized by Burnett and Kaczynski for using images of the U.S. border wall built during the Trump administration in a recent campaign ad, despite her past condemnation of the wall as "useless."
During the construction of the wall, a portion of the wall built by Donald Trump was highly controversial.
Burnett queried, "Is she utilizing the wall he constructed to display her accomplishments?"
Burnett and Kaczynski discussed Harris's stance on decriminalizing all illegal drug possession during their Monday interview.
"If she meant all drug possession except for marijuana, it would also include fentanyl, crack, and cocaine, among other things."
The Harris campaign directed Planet Chronicle Digital to a statement from campaign comms director Michael Tyler that he made on Planet Chronicle Channel Tuesday morning when asked for a response.
In the segment, he stated, "To clarify, the questionnaire he mentioned is not what she is proposing. It's not what she's running on. If you want to discuss immigration or border security, she has made it clear how she has governed and how she intends to govern if elected president of the United States. For instance, regarding border security, she has made it clear that the bipartisan border security package that Donald Trump rejected because he believed it would benefit him politically - if it reaches her desk, she will sign it into law."
