CNN anchor predicts a challenging debate for Harris against Trump: "He's very determined"
An interview with Trump and Harris is scheduled for Sept. 10.
During a CNN interview on Thursday, Vice President Kamala Harris was cautioned by host Abby Phillip that she could not disregard former President Trump's presence on stage, even though she had previously refused to respond to his criticisms.
Phillip stated during a discussion on Thursday night that it's important to note that Donald Trump is tall, loud, and persistent, and that Harris has demonstrated the ability to disregard his criticisms while sharing the stage with him during a debate.
Harris did not reply to Trump's remarks about the vice president's discussion of her racial identity during a CNN interview with Dana Bash at the National Association of Black Journalists.
"Trump questioned Harris's ethnicity during the July event, stating, "I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black.""
"Trump's comments are just the same old tired playbook," Harris responded to Bash's question. "Next question, please."
Phillip doubted that Harris' response to Trump's attacks, including the one on Sept. 10, would be sufficient.
Phillip said, "It won't be easy to simply say, 'OK, let's move on,' because he'll be right there on stage."
The panel of CNN political commentators were divided on how Harris could effectively respond to Trump during the debate.
Ashley Allison, the former National Coalitions Director for Biden-Harris 2020, advised Harris to disregard Trump's remarks during the debate.
"Allison stated that Harris is not very tall and is a petite woman. She encouraged Harris to let the vice president act like a bully and throw out red meat, while she rises above the occasion. Allison believes that it was crucial for Harris to answer the question about race because that behavior is unbecoming of the president's office."
In her CNN interview, Harris made the right decision, according to CNN analyst David Axelrod.
Axelrod stated that Trump's behavior raises the question of whether people want him for the next four years or someone who focuses on their problems, and he believes that pivoting works.
Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive an immediate response from the Harris and Trump campaigns when requested for comment.
