Chicago mom expresses despair to Democrats after son's murder: "It's not working"
Monee Jacobs becomes a guest on 'Fox & Friends' to discuss her son's murder in 2023.
An emotional plea for justice for her deceased son was made by a distraught mother in Chicago at the Democratic National Convention.
Last year, in the Windy City, Monee Jacobs' son Jeremy was murdered, leaving her family in pieces and still grappling with grief and a need for answers about what happened.
On Monday, she met with Lawrence Jones of "Fox & Friends" and urged politicians to take a tougher stance on crime to make cities safer.
"We're losing babies at an alarming rate. While the elderly are not disappearing as quickly, our young people are vanishing at a faster pace. They're not even given the chance to reach their full potential," she emphasized.
"I'll never experience the joy of having a grandchild from Jeremy. Our future is at stake... What will it take for you to take action and fulfill your responsibilities to safeguard the community? You're not doing it because, if you were, we would have all the answers we need."
Despite the details of her son's murder remaining unclear, Jacobs continues to seek updates from local officials to uncover the truth.
She expressed her anger, but when she called, she tried to be humble. However, she felt that they didn't reciprocate the same respect. Moreover, she felt that they didn't keep her updated about anything, which she considered unfair.
"The story you've shared with me is not accurate because I know my son well, and you can't expect me to accept what you've told me without verifying it. I know you know more, but you haven't kept me updated, which is unfair. I have to keep calling you to get the correct information."
Although he's the top priority, you didn't keep me updated about what you were finding out, she said in tears.
The Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday was set to feature Vice President Kamala Harris, with top Democrats appearing before her.
When delivering her message to the Democratic Party, Jacobs reiterated her call for change.
"What are you going to say to us about bringing justice to the parents who are losing their kids? I need answers."
You expect me to vote for you? What will you do for me? You promise what you'll do, but when you're in office, do you really follow through? I don't believe you. This crime has been happening for years, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to watch parents on TV grieving over the loss of their child. We're burying someone who grew inside of you. I never thought the pain would be this intense. It feels like I've lost my mom and dad all over again. Oh, that was tough. But this… it's too much pain.
