CBS host Gayle King, who donated to Kamala Harris in 2010, praises her qualifications for the presidency.
In the past, King has been a Democratic donor and has vacationed with the Obamas.
On Wednesday, CBS host Gayle King praised Vice President Kamala Harris as "uniquely qualified" to be President of the United States, expressing her admiration for the candidate she has supported financially in the past.
King stated that Kamala Harris is more than just a Black woman; she is uniquely qualified to be the president of the country. However, King did not reveal to viewers that she was a past financial supporter of her and other Democrats.
In the 2010 California Attorney General election, King made a total donation of $9,000 to Harris' campaign, with $2,500 given in late 2009 and $6,500 given in 2010. This contribution helped propel Harris to national prominence as she won the race.
King, a co-host on "CBS Mornings," criticized the idea of solely supporting Harris due to her being a Black woman.
"People should not vote for others based on their race, skin color, or gender. Instead, we should vote for individuals whose values align with our own and who possess the necessary qualifications," she stated.
The CBS host, who was a Democratic donor and vacationed with the Obamas, has given over $33,000 to the DNC Services Corp and $7,300 to Barack Obama. She is also close friends with Oprah Winfrey and Sen. Cory Booker, both of whom spoke at the convention on Wednesday.
Planet Chronicle Digital reached out to CBS News for comment.
During the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, King made his comments, which were followed by speeches from former President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, and Harris' running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
After President Biden declared his decision not to run for president in 2024, Vice President Harris has received a surge of positive media attention, despite avoiding formal press conferences and interviews.
An AP poll revealed that 48% of Americans now have a positive view of Harris, an increase from 39% previously.
A study by the conservative Media Research Center found that the big three networks' coverage of Harris has been 84% positive, while Trump's coverage has been 89% negative.
Since July 21, the MRC assessed feedback from journalists, presenters, and other guests on the NBC News, ABC News, and CBS News evening programs.
On Thursday evening, the DNC will conclude with Harris' speech accepting the nomination.
