Biden campaign staffer tried to end interview critical of the president, prompting voter to speak out: 'Chilling'
Stephen Stubbs was taken aback by the interaction.
A voter who criticized President Biden has spoken out about his encounter with a Biden campaign staffer after she tried to shut down his interview with a New York Times reporter.
Stephen Stubbs, a First Amendment attorney from Henderson, Nevada, disclosed to Planet Chronicle Digital in an interview that he received an invitation to attend a June 28 campaign event at the East Las Vegas Community Center featuring Vice President Kamala Harris.
Stubbs initially wanted to attend the Harris event to hear about the administration's plan for dealing with inflation, but after Biden's performance at the CNN Presidential Debate, he wanted to hear what she would say about questions regarding Biden's mental acuity.
The night before, the debate was the topic of discussion among everyone. Everyone was concerned about the outcome. A few people spoke up and urged moving forward with what was already in place, while the majority were critical of Joe Biden and extremely worried.
According to Stubbs, staffers at the event wearing Biden-Harris shirts "strongly hinted" that attendees should refrain from saying anything negative about the president.
While eating tacos and ice cream outside, he sat next to the chairwoman of the Democratic Party in Nevada, who was later approached by Simon Levien of the New York Times for an interview.
Stubbs conversed with Levien, who inquired about his thoughts on the previous night's debate.
Stubbs, a Biden staffer, found it intimidating when a staffer following Levien began recording their conversation on their phone.
He questioned why Biden couldn't articulate his daily activities as president for 90 minutes during the debate.
Stubbs stated that he was concerned about who was currently running the country and said, based on what he saw last night, Biden should step down and Kamala Harris, who was elected as the vice president, should fulfill the rest of his term. However, when he made this statement, the staffer interrupted and said, "I'm going to stop this right now. This is a Biden event. I'm sorry, but I'm going to stop this." Stubbs tried to stop it.
"The New York Times rejected her request to continue the interview, and she responded with hostility, giving her daggers."
Clio Calvo-Platero, the deputy communications director for the Biden campaign in Nevada, was identified by Levien.
According to a vice presidential pool report from Levien, Calvo-Platero attempted to end interviews with critical voters twice: first with Democratic voter Amy Nelson and then with Stubbs.
The Biden campaign declined to comment on the incident when contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital.
Stubbs, a constitutionalist who identifies as a registered Democrat, stated that he cast his vote for a third party in the 2020 election due to his dissatisfaction with both Trump and Biden.
His conversation with Calvo-Platero left him feeling shocked and disturbed. He stated that he didn't appreciate it and found it to be an order rather than a request. The chilling part was that she was the one who ordered them to stop talking.
Stubbs, who spoke to Planet Chronicle Digital, revealed that he is an undecided voter going into November. He has problems with both Trump and Biden and describes the decision as being like having "chlamydia" or "gonorrhea."
"Neither option is a suitable decision," he stated. "I'm pleading for someone to provide me with a valid reason not to support Trump."
The Nevada native stated that he supports Biden's Supreme Court nominee, Justice Kentanji Brown Jackson, the administration's environmental policies, and its stance on unions and unionized workers.
Stubbs criticizes Trump's support for police militarization and the sale of weapons of war to police departments.
The most pressing concern for him as he approaches November is inflation, which is causing significant pain to his family and adult children.
Biden is being kept in a "bubble," according to Stubbs' final concern about him.
"Isn't it true that he's not receiving feedback from real Americans? I'm not convinced that Biden has the mental capacity to perform the job at this time. I believe it's responsible of him to say, for the sake of the country, I will set aside my ego and step down, allowing Mrs. Harris to complete the remaining time. It's not a long period, right? And you know what? Give her a chance," he stated to Planet Chronicle Digital.
"If Biden remains in the race, we won't know who Trump is running against. It's like a person behind a curtain. We don't know who's making the analysis and decisions because Biden lacks mental acuity," Stubbs said.
"We need to know who is running the country. That's the first thing I asked that reporter. The curtain has to be open."
The White House maintains that Biden had a poor performance in the debate due to a cold and jetlag, while Biden claims he is fully capable of carrying out his duties as president and is the most suitable candidate to defeat Trump in November.
