According to a report, Team Harris had not anticipated using unmuted mics during the debate, resulting in them having to quickly adjust their strategy.
Harris had reportedly planned to object, fact-check, and directly question Trump while he was speaking.
After losing their bid to change the rules on microphones, Kamala Harris' campaign team was reportedly left "scrambling" to rework their debate strategy.
On Tuesday in Philadelphia, former President Trump and Harris will clash in their first debate, which will be moderated by ABC News. Despite the Biden and Trump teams having previously agreed on the debate's terms, the Harris campaign had hoped for the microphones to be live throughout the event.
"According to Politico, Kamala Harris had initially planned to challenge and fact-check Donald Trump during their upcoming debate. However, with the finalization of rules that silence candidates when their opponents speak, Harris's advisors are now reevaluating their strategy."
The report stated that the Harris campaign desired un-muted microphones so that the vice president could utilize her prosecutorial background to confront the former president in a similar manner to how she grilled some of Trump's Supreme Court nominees and Cabinet members during Senate hearings.
Her predecessor's rules will reportedly result in her campaign officials being "handcuffed."
Some Democratic strategists said the debate terms were bad from the start.
Someone who needed protection should not have been on the debate stage, and now they are stuck with it, as one told Politico.
James Carville, a democratic strategist, argued that the rules do not significantly favor either side.
""It seems like a wash to me because [Trump] won't be able to do his shenanigans either," he said."
The report also stated that some Democrats privately believe that Kamala Harris' frustration is mainly a strategy to set expectations for the upcoming debate in Philadelphia.
According to reports, Jason Miller, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, expressed happiness that Kamala Harris had agreed to the previously agreed-upon rules for the debate, which included no notes, no sitting down, and no advance copies of questions.
Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive a response from the Harris campaign when requested a comment.
Harris' campaign consistently opposed the microphone rule, attempting to provoke Trump into abandoning the original agreement to silence mics, even initially declining to approve the guidelines in an effort to renegotiate.
Last week, the campaign formally agreed to the original debate rules, but continued to express dissatisfaction with the terms.
The letter stated that Vice President Harris, a former prosecutor, would be at a disadvantage in this format as it would protect Donald Trump from direct interactions with the Vice President. The primary reason for the campaign's insistence on muted microphones is likely due to this.
Planet Chronicle' Lindsay Kornick contributed to this report.
