ABC is accused of giving Harris a soft treatment despite her policy flip-flops, according to a political analyst.
Mark Halperin stated that the media is fully committed to safeguarding Harris until Election Day.
Vice President Kamala Harris was accused by journalist Mark Halperin of being protected by the media "at all costs" following the high-stakes ABC News Presidential Debate on Tuesday night.
During a livestream on his media platform 2WAY on Wednesday, Halperin stated that one news organization was fully committed to protecting her throughout Election Day, but the coverage of the debate, which was uneven, failed to recognize its own unevenness. Instead, the coverage mostly praised ABC's performance.
During the ABC debate, co-moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis faced criticism from conservatives for fact-checking Trump five times but failing to correct Harris on any of her statements. Additionally, they were accused of allowing Harris to avoid explaining her changes in stance on several past progressive policies.
The "biggest failure of the night" was the moderators' soft treatment of Harris' policy flip-flops, according to a former ABC News political director, Halperin.
"Last night was the best for me, and if the Harris campaign continues to conceal her, it may be the only chance to get her to clarify her issue position changes. That, in my opinion, was the biggest failure," he stated.
Since the formation of the Harris-Walz ticket, Trump and his running mate, Vance, have conducted 44 interviews, while Harris and her running mate have only participated in seven non-scripted interviews, leaving less than two months until Election Day.
He argued that the debate could have been the only chance for Harris to clarify her evolving policy stances.
Halperin stated that they posed one question to her, she didn't respond, and subsequently, they abandoned it entirely.
At the conclusion of the discussion, Linsey David from ABC raised the topic of Harris' previous advocacy for eliminating private healthcare, followed by inquiring about her current healthcare plan.
Halperin criticized Trump's debate performance as the "worst" he had ever seen.
Trump was unable to convey his message that Harris was a far-left radical, he contended.
Halperin stated last night that what most of us believed was true: He is completely incapable of doing it.
Although Halperin perceived the media coverage as biased and Trump's performance as poor, he believed the debate wouldn't significantly affect the polls.
"There may be movement, there may not," he said.
