A study found that David Muir's ABC newscast had a 100% positive outlook on Harris and a 93% negative view of Trump before the debate.

The study showing Vice President Kamala Harris receiving more positive coverage on "World News Tonight with David Muir" than former President Trump should have indicated that the upcoming debate would be hostile.

ABC News has been criticized for inconsistently fact-checking Trump and failing to correct Harris during the presidential debate. The moderators have also been called out for their coverage of abortion and for giving Harris a free pass on her policy flip-flops.

The fiasco has damaged the journalistic reputations of Muir and Davis the most, but it will also affect the ABC and Disney brands because the moderators did not ask enough critical questions of Harris.

Brent Bozell, founder of the Media Research Center, stated on the NewsBusters Podcast that Harris had a clear advantage that should have been evident.

Bozell stated on Wednesday that whoever suggested Trump participate in an ABC debate should be fired, as it was the worst decision possible. He was discussing his views on the network's biases.

ABC News has been accused of favoring Democrats over Trump and painting the GOP nominee in a negative light on multiple occasions. The network's daytime talk show "The View," which is part of ABC's news division, has been openly anti-Trump for years and had Chelsea Clinton as a guest host on Thursday. The show's hosts were thrilled about the debate, with Whoopi Goldberg referring to it as a "booty whooping."

"Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on ABC frequently criticizes Trump and invites anti-Trump guests such as Jane Fonda and George Conway, with Kimmel even participating in a fundraiser for Biden during his presidential campaign.

During the ABC coverage of the Democratic National Convention, Davis appeared to link Trump to the Ku Klux Klan by stating that the former president was scheduled to appear in the same Michigan town where the KKK held a protest earlier this year.

The Media Research Center discovered that "World News Tonight" host Chris Cuomo has been more favorable towards Kamala Harris and critical of Donald Trump compared to NBC and CBS evening news programs.

From July 21 to September 6, ABC's "World News Tonight" featured 100 campaign stories about Kamala Harris's entry into the race, which were reviewed by Bozell's MRC.

According to Rich Noyes, a contributing editor at MRC NewsBusters, the Vice President received a 100% positive spin score based on 25 clearly positive statements about him from reporters, anchors, voters, and other non-partisan sources, with zero negative statements.

"Our analysts discovered that out of all the comments about Trump, only five were positive, while there were 66 negative statements, resulting in a 7% positive and 93% negative spin score. Meanwhile, during the same time period, both CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News provided mostly positive coverage for Harris and negative coverage for Trump, although not as extreme as ABC’s World News Tonight."

The MRC's measure of good versus bad press did not include partisan comments, as well as assessments about the candidates' poll standings and prospects. However, the MRC noted that ABC's reporters and anchors either criticized Trump themselves or broadcast negative comments from non-partisan sources to give a heavily negative spin to the former President's coverage.

MRC researchers highlighted "other ways that ABC's flagship newscast helped the Democratic nominee" before the presidential debate.

"World News Tonight" has not used the term "liberal" to describe Harris, has not interviewed voters who oppose her, frequently promotes Trump controversies, and conceals negative news about her.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, along with Muir and Davis, wrote a letter to ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic, requesting a correction for a "100% inaccurate" abortion claim made during the debate.

In 2019, Trump criticized former Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam's infamous comments about third-trimester abortions, but was later "fact-checked" by Davis. Northam had suggested that in rare cases, a baby could be born alive during a third-trimester abortion, and a discussion would occur between the physicians and the mother about what to do.

At the debate, Trump was sternly responded to by Davis, who stated that there is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America claims the ABC moderator made a mistake and should set the record straight.

In a letter to ABC executives, Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, stated that her statement was 100% inaccurate and tragically ignored the reality of babies who survive failed, late-term abortions but are denied basic medical care and left to die.

ABC News did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Dana Walden, a senior Disney executive who oversees ABC News, is one of Harris' "extraordinary friends," according to a report in the New York Times. Walden and Harris have been friends since 1994, while their husbands, Matt Walden and Doug Emhoff, have known each other since the 1980s.

Disney's highest-ranking television executive, Walden, does not influence editorial decisions, according to ABC. She has donated to numerous Democrats and supported Harris' political campaigns since at least 2003.
