A New York couple discovers a safe containing $100,000 cash while magnet fishing in a lake.
The couple who made an extraordinary discovery shared their earnings with 'Fox & Friends'.
A New York City couple caught a safe filled with cash while fishing in a Queens lake.
"James Kane, a magnet fisher, stated in a video on Friday that he had found another safe. "That's definitely another safe," he said. "Oh, that's money… stacks of bills, dude!""
A large safe filled with $100,000 in dollar bills was retrieved from the lake by Kane and magnet fisher Barbie Agostini.
Kane, always fascinated by treasure hunting, decided to give magnet fishing a try during the COVID-19 pandemic after discovering the activity through YouTube videos.
Kane stated on "Fox & Friends" Tuesday that we lack the ability to go on ships and scuba dive to find wrecks, but we discovered that people can throw magnets in the water, which we initially thought was electrical, but it's actually neodymium, and anyone can do it.
Kane initially purchased a magnet from Amazon, but the couple later upgraded to larger and stronger magnets, enabling them to retrieve valuable items such as a money-filled safe.
Kane advised that you need something very strong because some of these safes weigh a couple of hundred pounds.
The couple received the green light from the NYPD to keep the money, but the bills' condition could negatively affect their substantial earnings.
The Treasury Department will examine the wet dollar bills and, if they add up to a sufficient amount, will issue a check to the pair. Each bill must be at least 50% intact to be included in the total.
Kane and Agostini plan to use the money from the prize catch to either buy a home or purchase new equipment for their future fishing adventures.
"We've considered various options, including acquiring a small house for ourselves, possibly in the south, and upgrading our equipment for our channel."
