A biographer of Barbara Walters discloses the ideal actress to portray her in a film.
Susan Page, author of 'The Rulebreaker', proposed various actresses portray the iconic broadcaster throughout her career.
The late legendary broadcaster Barbara Walters' biographer revealed which actress should portray her in a film.
After appearing at the 2024 Texas Tribune Festival, Susan Page, the Washington bureau chief for USA Today and author of "The Rulebreaker: The Life and Times of Barbara Walters," spoke with Planet Chronicle Digital.
Page chuckled when asked who should play the trailblazing journalist in Hollywood.
"I don't know," Page initially responded.
"Meryl Streep would be great, but it depends on whether you're referring to the young or older Barbara Walters, as she had a 50-year career, and it might not be the same actress playing her throughout her life."
Netflix's drama series "The Crown" featured three actresses portraying the late Queen Elizabeth over six seasons.
But Page was stumped as to who should play Streep's younger counterpart.
Page spoke about what inspired her to write about the journalism trailblazer.
"Barbara Walters has been an iconic figure for women journalists in both TV and print media, and there was no biography written about her until now."
Throughout her career, Walters made history by being the first female co-host of NBC's "The Today Show" and later becoming the highest paid news anchor ever when she joined ABC News.
Watching Barbara Walters growing up would not lead you to believe that women are incapable of conducting major interviews, interviewing heads of state and other powerful individuals, or earning as much or more money than their male counterparts, according to Page.
Walters died in 2022 at age 93.
