Usher discusses the near-disaster during the Super Bowl halftime show and explains what motivated him to return.
The Black Eyed Peas featured a cameo by the 'Yeah!' singer during the 2011 Super Bowl halftime show.
Once Usher tasted the Super Bowl halftime show, he craved for more.
During a Super Bowl halftime show press conference, Usher revealed that he faced a significant issue when he appeared as a guest performer with the Black Eyed Peas in 2011.
"I almost missed my first mark when my hand got caught in a wire that was holding me 30 feet in the air. I exclaimed, 'Oh my god, don’t let this malfunction cause me to miss something,'" he said to the audience.
He managed to avoid catastrophe and gracefully descended from the stadium's rafters to execute "OMG" with the group, even surpassing Will.i.am and finishing in the splits.
The singer realized he wanted to be a Super Bowl halftime headliner after the performance.
"Usher felt an overwhelming sense of passion after performing in front of a large crowd and experiencing the energy. This experience fueled his desire to achieve a similar moment in the future. However, it was the shared experience with the Black Eyed Peas that truly made the moment special for him."
The pregame show of the Super Bowl will begin with Post Malone performing "America the Beautiful" and Reba McEntire singing the national anthem.
No information has been disclosed about Usher's performance on Sunday.
He acknowledged that fitting 30 years into 13 minutes has been a challenge.
"Fantasy lists have been circulating about the songs I will perform first, middle, and last, as well as who will join me on stage. However, I focused on being mindful of my past, enjoying the present in Las Vegas, and considering where we are heading in the future."
Speculation about who could possibly cameo during Usher's set was prompted by his acknowledgement that many of his songs feature other artists.
"Usher stated that he found it easy on himself when he decided to include features on songs that became hit records, which provided him with the greatest point of reference for potential guest performers."
Some of the artists who have collaborated with Ludacris include Lil Jon, Alicia Keys, and Pitbull.

An upcoming documentary will provide fans with more information about Usher's Super Bowl halftime show process.
"Apple has been following me throughout this entire process. We're figuring out how to share it with you. Break the internet with that conversation," he said.
"A documentary crew has been filming all of the moments that have occurred during the process. As a result, cameras are constantly surrounding us, capturing every step of the journey. You will have the opportunity to witness the entire process, from the moment I received the call to the moment I left the stage. This is the plan."
The halftime show is a prelude to Usher's upcoming tour, Past Present Future, and follows the release of his new album, "Coming Home," on Friday.
This has been an incredible time in my life, and I'm grateful that God and the universe have guided me to this moment," he stated. "It's up to others to determine what this means to them and how they perceive themselves. However, for me, I am a reflection of my beliefs. I believed I could achieve success in this city, and it has come to fruition.
"I am not finished yet. I will continue. My tour is about the past, present, and future, and I intend to share the energy I have created here with others."
