Death threats were made against Kevin Smith for his film 'Dogma'.
The film "Dogma," featuring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, faced criticism following its release in 1999.
After the release of "Dogma" in 1999, Director Kevin Smith did not receive well-wishes.
On Friday, Entertainment Weekly reported that Smith stated he received "400,000 pieces of hate mail and three death threats" following the film's release. The movie featured Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as two fallen angels trying to return to heaven from New Jersey.
"Can you believe Smith got so angry over a movie with a rubber poop monster?"
Smith recalls vividly a hateful message he received, which stated: "You Jews better take that money you stole from us and start investing in flak jackets, because we're coming in there with shotguns."
"The movie had a rubber poop monster in it. Can you imagine getting that irate over a movie with a rubber poop monster? I hope whoever wrote that, that missive, found peace." — - Kevin Smith
Smith expressed hope that the person who wrote the message found peace, according to the outlet.
"Currently, "Dogma" is not available on streaming platforms. In 2022, Smith revealed to The Wrap that Harvey Weinstein was withholding the film."
At the time, he revealed to the outlet that the devil owned his movie about angels.
In February 2020, Weinstein was convicted of forcing oral sex on Mimi Haley in 2006 and third-degree rape of Jessica Mann in 2013, resulting in a 23-year prison sentence.
Weinstein was found not guilty of first-degree rape and two counts of predatory sexual assault, according to Annabella Sciorra's allegations of rape in the 1990s. Weinstein maintains his innocence and claims he has never had non-consensual sex.
The appeals court ruled that the trial judge should have restricted witnesses to testifying only about the sexual assault encounters that formed the basis of Weinstein's charges, as several women testified about alleged sexual assaults that were not part of the charges.
Weinstein's retrial is scheduled to begin in November, after he was indicted on additional sex crimes charges earlier this month. He will be arraigned for those charges on Sept. 18.
