Toby Keith's daughter reveals the reason she shared with friends that her father is a plumber rather than a renowned country musician.

Krystal Keith recalls telling her friends that her father, Toby Keith, was a plumber, at least that's what she remembers.

Krystal's upbringing in the Keith household was typical, despite her father's sudden rise to fame as a country music star with his 1993 hit, "Should've Been a Cowboy."

Krystal would typically respond to inquirious outsiders about her father's profession by stating that he had a typical 9-to-5 job.

Krystal revealed to Planet Chronicle Digital that she believed everyone's dad had a job like hers, and her dad might as well have been a plumber. In reality, she told people he was a plumber, and when people later found out who he was and asked about his job, she would respond with the same answer.

"Always Mark, they'd ask, 'What's his name?'"

If Krystal's friends didn't believe her story, she had a backup plan with a well-known name.

"I never wanted to give them what they expected."

Despite Toby's superstar status, not much changed at home when he released his first song, and Krystal remembered this as she was just a kid at the time.

"Our childhood was typical, so our lives didn't change significantly. However, the things we could afford changed a bit. My mom didn't worry about paying bills, as we never had to pay them before living in a trailer."

"If I had known the difference, we could have been rich then. Despite not knowing, we never wanted for anything and always had everything we needed."

Krystal, Shelley, Stelen, and their father experienced a "gradual shift" in their lifestyle due to their increased ability to travel and participate in shows, which was made possible by their newfound financial stability.

Krystal stated that he remained unchanged, but the people and their behavior towards them changed, particularly in how they spoke about him.

"As a child, I learned that my dad was different from others because he showed me that this wasn't normal."

Krystal's dad imparted words of wisdom in his own "Toby Keith" style when she forged her own path in the music industry.

Krystal recalled that he never gave orders or restrictions, instead he offered advice and allowed her to make her own decisions. He rarely imposed his ideas on her and instead encouraged her to lead the way she wanted.

"When I was stuck and needed advice or a push, I would go to him and ask, "What do you think about this song?" and he would give me his advice."

Toby Keith readied his daughter for a career in the music industry.

On Wednesday, Krystal was part of a star-studded ensemble in the TV special "Toby Keith: American Idol," which paid tribute to the late country singer who passed away on Feb. 5 after a long battle with cancer.

In the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville, Lainey Wilson rode in on a horse and covered "Beer For My Horses," while Carrie Underwood sang "A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action" as the new host of "American Idol."

Toby, a longtime advocate for pediatric cancer research and advocacy through the Toby Keith Foundation, prioritized giving back to the community by supporting an event that funded the OK Kids Korral, a center for children and their families receiving cancer treatment, which offers day and night lodging at no cost.

"Krystal stated, "Our family was entrusted with a legacy that no one can surpass. He left behind an incredible legacy, and we as a family took it upon ourselves to carry it forward. We were concerned about who would continue his work if he didn't make it through cancer.""

Our community needs this special place to continue, as it's an incredible hospital that treats kids from across the nation. It means a lot to our whole family.
