'Mormon Wives' Unveil Hidden World of Faith and Friendship Amid Controversial Sect
The #MomTok phenomenon was shaken when it was discovered that the content creators were also swingers.
In 2022, Taylor Frankie Paul stunned the TikTok community with her divorce announcement from Tate Paul and revealed more about their "soft swinging" lifestyle, which included friends seen in her videos.
"The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" is a new Hulu series that explores the aftermath of a sex scandal involving TikTok influencers who became mothers with substantial incomes.
"Taylor shared with People magazine that she wanted people to have a better understanding of her, and she aimed to be vulnerable by showing that even when life hits rock bottom, there is hope."
Taylor and her ex had agreed to a lifestyle that included having multiple partners, but as a couple, they decided not to go all the way. However, when a scandal broke, Taylor admitted that she had cheated on her ex with Dakota Mortensen, who she now calls her boyfriend and recently had a child with.
The lives of women featured in Taylor's videos and on their own platforms also underwent significant changes along with hers.
"The Mormon mom influencers' world crashes when they are caught in a swinging sex scandal that makes headlines worldwide. Their sisterhood is now at risk, and their faith, friendships, and reputations are all in jeopardy. Will #MomTok be able to recover and continue to challenge the rules, or will this group fall from grace?"
"Mikayla Matthews stated during a confessional interview that while she loves the Mormon church, there are numerous rules that members must adhere to. "We were brought up to be submissive wives who cater to our husbands' every need," she added."
"By the age of 21, have children, as I did at 16."

"Taylor exclaimed, 'F--- this,' before a montage of clips from her TikTok days played. She shared how she started MomTok, a group of Mormon moms creating TikToks, which included Whitney, Mayci, Mikayla, and herself."
"Whitney stated, "We're challenging the norm by attempting to alter the gender role stigma in the Mormon culture.""
"In the trailer, one husband stated, 'That's what scares me. There are reasons behind the rules in the church.'"
In another excerpt, Taylor instructed, "Mayci, twerk your a-- off," before performing another dance routine. "My objective was simply to support my family," one mother stated.
In a matter of days, the women's social media following exploded from a few million to nine million, thanks to their entertaining group dance routines and relatable comic sketches.
Mikayla stated, "It suddenly became a group of them swinging together."
"Everyone has hooked up with, like, everyone," Taylor said in a TikTok clip shared in the trailer.
One mom explained to the group, "It was like standing next to each other and swapping in front of each other."
""The husbands are now the center of the drama on MomTok," a mom confessed in a confessional, with one husband letting out a stressful exhale in the background."
During a heated discussion, Jennifer Affleck conveyed to her husband, Zac, that "the group is significant to me." In response, Zac, who is related to famous cousins Ben and Casey Affleck, stated that "being divorced and raising two children would be quite challenging, so you have to make the choice."
Jennifer revealed to People magazine that filming one season of the show felt like receiving 10 years of marriage counseling.
Worlds start to collide offline as friendships are torn apart behind the scenes.
Whitney remarked, "Although we appear to be the best of friends online, we're not."
The topic of alcohol is discussed at the table, which is something Mormons avoid due to their religious beliefs. The drama escalated when body camera footage was released in February 2023, showing the night Taylor was arrested on charges of domestic violence.
She was accused of aggravated assault (a third-degree felony), two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child (a third-degree felony), child abuse (a class A misdemeanor), and criminal mischief (a class B misdemeanor).
In August, Taylor was convicted of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, and the other charges were dropped.
