The cast of 'Melrose Place' reached a consensus on not allowing any tongue-kissing in filming after a difficult real-life separation.
Andrew Shue and Courtney Thorne-Smith were romantically involved during the premiere of 'Melrose Place' in 1992 and remained on-screen lovers even after their separation.
In the '90s show "Melrose Place," Andrew Shue and Courtney Thorne-Smith remembered how they handled their on-screen kissing scenes despite their real-life breakup.
The on-and-off romance between the 56-year-old actor and the 58-year-old's characters on the FOX prime time soap opera mirrored their real-life relationship, which began in 1992 and ended.
On the "Still The Place" podcast, Shue and Thorne-Smith discussed how they continued to portray characters in a romantic relationship despite their separation.
"It was shockingly not weird," Thorne-Smith said.
""Although it was tough at times, we managed it well," Shue stated."
Thorne-Smith remembered having a conversation with Shue to set boundaries for their characters' love scenes after they parted ways in real-life.
"The "Ally McBeal" alum stated, "We were no longer dating when we had to kiss. I remember saying, 'Now we're professionals, no tongue, you understand?'""
"Although we were dating before the show, we continued dating after our breakup in real life. However, our transition into friendship was smooth, and there wasn't much tension between us."
Shue concurred with his ex-colleague and stated that they stood by each other during their sudden rise to fame following the success of "Melrose Place" on FOX.

"Our relationship helped us carry each other through a very intense time, Shue said. The show received a lot of attention, and although you were already well-known, we were dealing with a lot of Fox celebrity craziness."
The Rainmaker" star stated, "I remember feeling safe knowing we were together guiding each other through it.
Shue was married to floral designer Jennifer Hageney from 1994 to 2008 and has three sons with her. In 2010, he married "Good Morning America" co-anchor Amy Robach, but the couple separated in August 2022 after Robach reportedly had an affair with her "GMA" co-anchor T.J. Holmes.
In March 2023, Shue and Robach's divorce was finalized, while Holmes and Marilee Fiebeg separated in August 2022 and finalized their divorce in October 2023.
In November 2022, Robach and Holmes made their relationship public, while Shue and Fiebig began dating in December 2023 after leaning on each other following their respective splits.
Thorne-Smith and Conrad married in 2000 but split in 2001. Fishman and Thorne-Smith, who share a son Jacob, got married in January 2007.
