The biggest scandals of the summer include Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck ending their relationship and Justin Timberlake's DWI.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez ended their marriage on August 20.
Summer 2024 has been full of celebrity scandals.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's second attempt at love ended Aug. 20 when the singer filed for divorce after two years of marriage.
In June, Justin Timberlake was arrested for a DWI due to "bloodshot and glossy" eyes when he was pulled over, according to court documents. Rumors of drama behind the scenes have been swirling around Blake Lively's latest film, "It Ends With Us."
This summer's celebrity headlines have been filled with much more than just the tip of the iceberg, as the biggest scandals faced by stars over the past several months are revealed below.
Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck split
In August, Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck, after months of divorce rumors circulated online.
According to People magazine's sources, Lopez resided in the couple's $68 million Beverly Hills house while Affleck stayed in a rental nearby during their efforts to sell the expensive mansion.
"Jennifer is heartbroken after her marriage ended, a source told Planet Chronicle Digital. She had started moving out a while ago."
In spite of the challenges he faced in his personal life, Affleck stayed devoted to his professional aspirations.
"The insider stated that Ben has been working tirelessly and spending a considerable amount of time at his office. He is highly enthusiastic about the numerous projects he is currently working on. Ben is very involved in his company (Artists Equity) and is determined to continue concentrating on directing, acting, and producing."
Lopez and Affleck were rumored to be breaking up prior to the divorce filing. The singer attended the Met Gala in May without her husband, who was unable to attend due to his filming schedule. At the time, Affleck's representative confirmed to Planet Chronicle Digital that the actor's work obligations prevented him from attending the star-studded charity event celebrating the opening of the 2024 Costume Institute exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In July, Lopez hosted a "Bridgerton" themed birthday party in the Hamptons without Affleck, as sources revealed at the time that while his wife was on the East Coast, Affleck was working in Los Angeles.
On July 16, 2022, the couple flew to Las Vegas and got married at A Little White Wedding Chapel.
The couple, who have been together for 20 years, hosted a backyard ceremony for friends and family at the $8 million Georgia mansion Affleck bought when they first started dating.
Christina Hall, Josh Hall divorce
In July, both Christina and Josh Hall filed for divorce, each stating irreconcilable differences as the cause of their marriage's end.
Josh requested the termination of his ability to provide spousal support to Christina, while Christina requested the rejection of spousal support for both of them.
"I value privacy, especially during a significant life event like divorce. I did not seek this situation, and I will not publicly criticize anyone because they have loved ones who care about them. Unfortunately, the internet is permanent."
"We are real humans, this is our life and I am not here to entertain people I don’t know with my private matters." — Josh Hall
"We are real people, living our lives, and we do not use our personal matters to entertain strangers. Our private details will be handled fairly and confidentially with our respective counselors in due time. Those who know us well, know who we are."
Since the filing, Josh has been accused by Christina of transferring $35,000 from her bank account into his personal account.
Christina stated in court documents that she would not have asked him to send her money the day after she informed him of the divorce.
She stated that she believed the case was straightforward and that any fees and costs should be minimal, despite the possibility of paying spousal support and reasonable attorney's fees to Josh's counsel.
"My life centers on my children and work, like all hardworking mothers. I believe that Josh earns his own income and therefore does not require spousal support from me."
In 2021, Christina and Josh secretly got married and later had a formal ceremony in Hawaii. The couple had been planning to appear together in the upcoming show, "The Flip Off," which will feature Christina's ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and his wife Heather Rae El Moussa.
Billy Ray Cyrus, Firerose relationship crumbles
Their summer was challenging due to the difficulties they faced in their relationship, as experienced by Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose.
In June, Billy Ray claimed that Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Rosie Hodges, was "physically, verbally, and emotionally" abusive to him during their seven-month marriage, as stated in a court filing obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital.
In a countersuit, Firerose accused the country star of abusing her, but he denied these allegations.
"The plaintiff was certainly vocal, frustrated, and angry with the defendant in May 2024, but it is the plaintiff who has been abused, both verbally and emotionally, as well as physically, by the defendant."
The filing also stated that Firerose had accused him of abuse in a previous filing, but this accusation was later found to be false and was used to sensationalize her complaints.
Months later, audio recordings emerged of Billy Ray disrespectfully speaking about his ex-wife and some of his kids.
Cyrus was caught on tape using profane language to berate his Australian ex-wife.
The singer of "Achy Breaky Heart" confirmed that the recently released audio was indeed him.
In the recording, the ex-couple is heard arguing about attending a supposed Cyrus event.
"You're an idiot, Cyrus. You should have left two hours ago at 9:15," said I.
Firerose suggested that it was not true and that they could still leave and arrive on time.
""Please leave. I'm not going. I'm not in a position to perform. I had to go when I was ready. If you could just be quiet," Cyrus said."
Before Cyrus began yelling, Firerose requested that he stop screaming at her.
"If you had listened to me when I told you, it would have been done. Now I'm really angry. You once again proved that you won't listen. I don't know who you think you are, but you won't listen. This isn't about your BRCA gene or surgery. It's about you being a selfish b----. I don't think you're very smart. I've changed my mind on that. What you are is a selfish f---ing b----," Cyrus yelled.
"Cyrus declared, "I'll tell you what. That's what you are. You're a selfish a-- f---ing b----. You cannot continue to walk all over me and think that I'm gonna go out in public with your dumb---. And f---ing have you do this s--- anywhere you want. In front of whoever.""
Firerose responded by asking if the speaker was referring to their screaming at her.
If you had just shut your mouth, this wouldn't have happened. Look at the mess you made. That was a dumb thing to do. Now that's dumb because I won't tolerate that behavior. You just messed up, Cyrus said.
Before the conversation ended with more name-calling, Firerose told her husband she wanted him to be happy.
Firerose and Billy Ray have been engaged in a tumultuous online battle since three months ago when Billy Ray petitioned for an annulment.
According to court documents obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, the husband and wife acknowledge and agree that their marriage is of extremely short duration and neither party has any marital interest in any real property owned by the other party prior to the marriage. Neither party was awarded alimony, and both parties agreed there are no jointly listed retirement assets.
"Billy Ray's rep announced that the parties reached a settlement agreement at mediation to dissolve their 7-month marriage, and the Court declared the parties divorced this morning. Mr. Cyrus is relieved to put this nightmare behind him."
In November 2022, Cyrus and Firerose announced their engagement, and they tied the knot on his ranch on October 10, 2023.
Justin Timberlake DWI
In June, Justin Timberlake faced legal issues when he was arrested for DWI in New York.
In August, during a virtual court appearance in Sag Harbor, New York, Timberlake entered a not guilty plea for a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence in June, as reported by Planet Chronicle Digital.
In addition to suspending Timberlake's driver's license, Justice Carl Irace also officially revoked his permission to drive in New York.
On June 18, around 12:15 a.m., Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor on Long Island for failing to stop at a stop sign and drifting out of the right lane. He then failed all standardized field sobriety tests, according to court documents obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital.
The arresting officer wrote that he had "bloodshot and glossy eyes," was "unable to divide his attention," had a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath," was "unsteady afoot," and exhibited "slow speech."
The arresting officer was informed by the "SexyBack" singer that he had consumed one martini at The American Hotel and was accompanying some friends to their residence. He was subsequently transported to an East Hampton police station, where he declined to take a Breathalyzer test.
During the week of his arrest, Timberlake expressed gratitude to his fans for their continued loyalty.
At his June 21 concert in Chicago, Timberlake expressed his gratitude without mentioning his arrest, acknowledging that it had been a challenging week.
The singer stated that this tour is particularly special to him as it feels like a constant companion, more so than any other tour. He added that most of the people in the room tonight, including himself, have grown up together. Many of them have come up to him and shared how they grew up with him.
"He emphasized that he has grown up with each of them and they have been a significant part of his life. He expressed his gratitude for their unwavering support, saying, "Sometimes I can't find the words to express how much you guys mean to me.""
Blake Lively ‘It Ends With Us’
Rumors of alleged drama between Lively and her co-star Baldoni have been circulating since the release of "It Ends With Us" in early August.
The promotional tour for "It Ends With Us" was met with speculation about issues between Lively, Reynolds, and Baldoni, despite the film's success at the box office.
Despite being the lead alongside Lively, Baldoni largely did his portion of the press tour solo. However, fans took to social media to share theories behind the peculiar aspects of the press tour.
However, Lively didn't seem to mention Baldoni in any interviews.
At the film's premiere, Baldoni and Lively did not take any photos together, unlike what is usually done by the entire cast and romantic partners.
At the time, Lively and Baldoni's representatives did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
This report was contributed to by Lauryn Overhultz, Caroline Thayer, and Tracy Wright of Planet Chronicle Digital.
