Spanish authorities are examining Katy Perry's music video 'Lifetimes'.
The singer reportedly filmed the video in an 'ecologically valuable' area without a permit.
An investigation is underway regarding the production company filming Katy Perry in a protected natural site for her new music video "Lifetimes."
In the video, it seems that Perry was filmed on the dunes of the Ses Salines Natural Park, a protected area on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera off the coast of Spain, without obtaining permission.
The private islet of S'Espalmador is one of the most ecologically valuable sites on the islands, as reported by local media, with the area being marked off from the public using sticks and ropes.
On Tuesday, the regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment announced that they have initiated a preliminary investigation into a production company for not obtaining the necessary permits.
Filming a video at a location does not constitute a "crime against the environment" if permission is obtained. The Ministry's website specifies that filming and photo sessions, research projects, sports diving, and lighting a fire on the island all require written authorization. However, non-professional photography and casual observation of the natural environment do not necessitate any permits.
WeOwntheCity and Perry's representatives did not promptly respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry for comment.
We have learned that one permit was in process, although we were given verbal authority to go ahead. Our local crew on July 22 applied for a permit for this specific location with the Directorate-General For Coasts And Coastline. Our crew received verbal approval on July 26 to proceed with the filming on July 27. We adhered to all regulations associated with filming in this area and have the utmost respect for this location and the officials tasked with protecting it.
Stillz, a Colombian-American photographer and director, had his video images shared on WeOwntheCity's social media.
The music video by Perry highlights Ibiza's popularity as a tourist destination, particularly its nightlife and swimming opportunities.
The Ses Salines Natural Park is situated on the southern tip of the island and includes the waters and small islands north of Formentera.
"143," Perry's upcoming album, will feature "Lifetimes" as its second single, set to release on Sept. 20.
In June, Perry's previous single "Woman's World" and the accompanying album faced criticism due to her collaboration with music producer Łukasz Sebastian Gottwald, commonly known as Dr. Luke.
In 2014, Kesha accused Dr. Luke of sexual assault and battery. Dr. Luke responded with a countersuit alleging defamation, and the two reached a settlement in 2023.
While some fans are thrilled about Perry's new album, others have raised concerns about her collaboration with Dr. Luke, particularly on "Woman's World," which appears to be a female empowerment anthem.
"Dr. Luke producing a song about women empowerment? That's shameful," one person commented on Perry's Instagram, which featured a snippet of the single. "Of all the producers to work with, with a title of 'Woman's World,' you chose Dr. Luke? Makes no sense at all," another commented.
