Samantha Harris, the ex-host of 'Dancing with the Stars,' discloses her second breast cancer diagnosis in a decade.
In 2014, the former 'Dancing with the Stars' co-host was first diagnosed with breast cancer.
After being cancer-free for a decade, Samantha Harris, the former "Dancing with the Stars" co-host, has been diagnosed with breast cancer again.
On Wednesday, Harris shared a video on Instagram expressing gratitude for her support system while announcing some news.
"Harris, 50, shared in a video clip that she has a recurrence of breast cancer, which she never thought she would be sharing again in her lifetime. Despite this, she feels fortunate to have guided, supported, and led so many people in the "Your Healthiest Healthy" community and will continue to do so. She will fight on and be okay."
"I am grateful for my family and close friends, and as I lean on them, I also reach out to you for support during this time. I will continue to share more about my treatment plan as it unfolds, and I look forward to seeing you soon."
In a follow-up video posted on Saturday, Harris disclosed the process that preceded her surgery day.
Harris, who was preparing for a partial mastectomy surgery, had to get a surgical clip put into the breast to show the surgeon the location of the cancerous tumor and tissue.
In 2014, People magazine reported that Harris discovered a lump on her right breast, which was later diagnosed as breast cancer. After hearing her treatment options, she underwent a double mastectomy.
"She revealed that she felt like an elephant was sitting on her chest when she spoke to the outlet about her post-diagnosis feelings. She was tired of feeling that way and knew she needed to take charge."
"DWTS" alum who stood alongside longtime host Tom Bergeron from 2010 to 2012 isn't the only one affected by cancer.
In 2014, Witney Carson, a former pro, almost missed her "dream" opportunity when she learned she had melanoma, a type of skin cancer, just weeks before she was supposed to arrive in Los Angeles.
"At last, I received the call that would propel my career," she shared with People magazine, adding, "It was my long-awaited dream."
"I was suddenly diagnosed with melanoma, but being the confident person I am, I thought, 'No biggie, I can still perform on the show,'" she shared about her experience on the show with Cody Simpson.
The "DWTS" contestant felt "ashamed" to disclose her medical condition because she feared others would perceive her as unfit.
"She felt embarrassed because she was an athlete and expected to embody everything healthy and fit. Despite being sick, she wanted people to believe she was doing everything right to maintain her athletic status. The producers and her partner were unaware of her illness."
Carson, a 19-year-old cancer survivor, believes her high school tanning bed use may have contributed to her skin cancer diagnosis. Her parents, both melanoma survivors, also have a genetic predisposition to the disease.
