Roger O'Donnell, the keyboardist of The Cure, discloses his diagnosis of a 'rare and aggressive' cancer.
An elderly individual encourages individuals to undergo testing, rather than disregard symptoms.
Last year, The Cure's keyboardist, Roger O'Donnell, revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer.
The 68-year-old musician took to social media to share the details.
Last September, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of lymphoma. Despite ignoring symptoms for several months, I eventually underwent a scan. After surgery, the biopsy result was devastating.
He stated that he had been under the care of top specialists for 11 months and had received immunotherapy and radiotherapy as part of his treatment.
Early detection of cancer increases the chances of beating it, so it's crucial to get tested if you suspect any symptoms. September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, so don't hesitate to get checked out.
O'Donnell stated, "Lastly, if you know someone who is ill or suffering, talking to them can be incredibly helpful. I can attest to this personally. I would also like to express my gratitude to my doctors, nurses, and technicians, as well as my friends, family, and partner Mimi. Being on the other side of this can be challenging."
A black and white photo of O'Donnell and his partner, Mimi, was accompanied by a lengthy caption.
The Mayo Clinic states that lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, which is a part of the body's immune system responsible for fighting infections and diseases. Symptoms may include fever, night sweats, fatigue, itchy skin, painless swelling of lymph nodes, and weight loss. Treatment options vary and often involve chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy, as mentioned by O'Donnell.
He posted another photo with black and white images, featuring his shorter hair, and wrote, "The hair isn't out of choice hahahah," while giving credit to Mimi for the photo.
The Cure declared that O'Donnell would not be part of the band on the Latin America leg of its tour last year.
In their announcement on X, they expressed their confidence that you would join them in wishing him a speedy recovery.
In 1987, O'Donnell joined the band, which was recognized for its goth appearance and new wave sound. He left the band briefly in 1990 and 1995 before rejoining in 2011.
