Rob Schneider is not interested in performing "politically correct" comedy.
Elle King is the daughter of actor Rob Schneider.
In June, during a fundraiser, Rob Schneider was asked to end his comedy set early, and he is now defending his performance.
Protesters at a fundraiser for the Hospitals of Regina Foundation in Canada shouted at Schneider for his controversial comments.
The comedian, who is also Elle King's father, views that type of disapproval as evidence that he's "doing it right."
"Free speech is all speech, not just the nice or socially acceptable stuff. It's the speech that challenges you," he said at the premiere of Adam Sandler's Netflix comedy special in New York.
"Challenging speech is what needs protection. Easy or acceptable speech doesn't require protection. I'm here to challenge the audience," he stated.
According to Schneider, the success of comedy is determined by its ability to challenge the audience.
"Schneider stated that it is acceptable for people to get upset about things, and that challenging comedy and society can make stand-up and art more interesting."
"Art is uninteresting when things are going well. The 1990s were a bit dull, but the current period is exciting and demanding."
Schneider spoke to the outlet about how "lovely" it is that Sandler, his friend and fellow comedian, always includes him. He told The Hollywood Reporter that Sandler called him, invited him to come out, and the next thing he knew, he was performing with him for his "Love You" comedy special.
Over the years, Sandler and Schneider have shared the screen in several movies together, including "Grown Ups," "The Waterboy," and "Big Daddy."
