Richard Simmons' brother reveals that the fitness icon passed away due to 'recent falls and heart disease'.
Richard Simmons, the 76-year-old fitness guru, passed away on July 13.
Lenny, Richard Simmons' brother, stated that his death in July was caused by a combination of factors, as confirmed by Planet Chronicle Digital.
According to a statement from the Simmons family spokesperson, Tom Estey, Lenny Simmons received a call from the LA Coroner's office this morning.
"Richard's death was ruled accidental by the coroner due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor. The toxicology report showed only that Richard had been prescribed medication."
On July 13, one day after his birthday, Simmons passed away at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 76.
Estey stated that the family wants to express gratitude to all those who have shown love and support during this period of grief.
The Medical Examiner's Office has not yet determined the official cause of death, according to Planet Chronicle Digital.
The L.A. County Medical Examiner's Office is currently investigating the cause of death of Simmons, who passed away shortly after.
An investigation and further testing are required to determine the official cause of his death, which has been temporarily deferred.
""Residence" was listed as the place of death for Simmons, whose case remained "open" and other "significant conditions" were cited as causes of death."
"The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Planet Chronicle Digital that officers are investigating a death and there is no evidence of foul play."
On the day he passed away, his longtime caretaker, Teresa Reveles, discovered the fitness icon in his bedroom.
"Reves told People magazine that he saw him looking peaceful before noticing his fisted hands. "That's why I know it was a heart attack.""
A few years ago, I had a heart attack, and my hands did the same.
On his 76th birthday, the day before he died, Teresa mentioned that Richard's leg was in pain due to a fall the previous day.
Teresa suggested going to the hospital, but Simmons objected, saying it was his birthday and they should wait until morning.
"But in the morning it was too late," Reveles said.
Planet Chronicle Digital's Larry Fink contributed to this report.
