Nev Schulman, host of 'Catfish,' is fortunate to be alive after breaking his neck in a bike accident.
Laura Perlongo is the wife of a 39-year-old father of 3 children.
Nev Schulman, the host and co-creator of "Catfish," is thankful to be alive after a near-fatal accident left him with the possibility of paralysis.
Last Sunday, Schulman spent a pleasant day fishing with his family. The following day, he was scheduled to pick up his son from school.
Monday was not an ordinary day. Monday was a day that taught me the true meaning of "before the accident." Monday made me realize how fortunate I was to have Sunday. As they say, life can change in a blink of an eye.
The 39-year-old shared photos and video of the aftermath, explaining that he "never made it to pick up my son from school on the bike. In fact, in some ways, I’m glad I didn’t. I was alone on impact. Me and the truck. And then I guess the pavement. I was alone and unconscious. And then conscious. Maybe I was fine (I wasn’t). Maybe I can still do my long run on Thursday (I couldn’t)."
In one video, Schulman is shown lying flat in bed, while in another, his cracked bike helmet is displayed.
X-ray images of his broken neck were shared by Schulman, but he did not specify the details of the accident.
I suffered a stable fracture of my C5 and C6 vertebrae. Although my hands were temporarily affected, I am not paralyzed. The human body is truly remarkable, and so are the medical professionals who have provided me with incredible care and knowledge. I am grateful to the staff at the Southampton emergency room and Stony Brook ICU in New York for their remarkable care and expertise.

When I hear from the doctors about how many people with similar injuries will never walk again, it's hard to feel sorry for myself.
A neck brace is worn by Schulman as he walks slowly down a hallway in videos.
"I am fortunate to be alive, standing, and embracing my loved ones, with a full recovery in sight. This experience has taught me the true value of gratitude, for the small and significant moments that preceded the accident, as well as the journey ahead."
In a video on his page, Schulman can be seen walking slowly towards his kids, who rush forward to hug him.
Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive an immediate response from the representatives of the "Catfish" host.
