Neil Young cancels tour, confesses to feeling ill about performing.
In June, the 78-year-old musician and his band Crazy Horse canceled their "Love Earth" tour.
Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse abruptly canceled their "Love Earth" tour months ago, and now the 78-year-old musician is opening up about what led to the decision.
On Wednesday, during a livestream with fans, Young confessed that he experienced a personal and professional realization and reached a plateau.
"One morning on the bus, the singer-songwriter woke up and felt like they couldn't continue. They said, "I can't do this, I gotta stop." Suddenly, they felt sick when they thought about going on stage. Their body was telling them to stop, so they listened to it."
In June, Young declared an "unplanned break" due to illness among several band members.
""We have had a blast with great audiences and music during the Love Earth Tour," he wrote in a message on his website."
"After getting sick following a concert in Detroit, our tour was forced to stop. Although we are still recovering, we plan to make up for the missed dates as soon as we are able. We understand the inconvenience this may have caused for those who made travel plans, and we apologize for any frustration this may have caused. Our top priority is the health and safety of our fans, and we appreciate your understanding and patience during this time."
"We want to stay and do more shows and albums for you, and for us, with love and thanks from Crazy Horse, Neil, Micah, Ralph, and Billy Love Earth."
Despite the frustration received from fans, Young knew that the tough decision he made during the livestream was for the best.
"The legal matters are not my concern. What matters to me is the art of playing and the music. That's what people loved and what they came to see. However, if that's not present, I won't go. My body told me not to do it."
Despite Young's admission that he feels capable of performing again, some of his band members are not fully recovered.
He stated that Crazy Horse would return, God willing, and they would continue playing. However, in the meantime, he has many friends with whom he enjoys playing.
The musician is anticipated to make a comeback to the stage this autumn at the Farm Aid event in New York.
