Taylor Frankie Paul's mom is speaking out against the "hypocritical" backlash her family has received after the trailer for "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" aired.

Earlier this week, Liann May shared her thoughts on the criticism she's received online and explained why it contradicts the beliefs of the Mormon church in a TikTok video.

""Recently, I've been irritated by the backlash I see from them on social media. I received a comment that I found interesting and contradictory, stating that my family and I should distance ourselves from the church and being Mormon because we're not Mormon enough," she said in the video."

It's hypocritical to say that my actions don't align with the church's teachings, but the same can be said for the church itself. People commit sins every day within the church, and no one is perfect.

Before judging others or claiming they shouldn't be Mormon or inactive, individuals should examine their own actions to ensure they align with the church.

Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive an immediate response from May or a representative of the show when requested a comment.

In the comments, people praised May for her courage in speaking up.

"Let me tell you, a lot of things happen in the church and a lot of sins are committed every single day. Nobody is perfect." — Liann May, Taylor Frankie Paul's mom

"We don't go to church on Sundays because we are flawless, but rather because we are all imperfect," one fan remarked.

"This is what I wish more people understood, and the show hasn't even aired yet, so who knows?"

The remarks come shortly after the trailer for the upcoming reality show aired.

In 2022, Paul sent shock waves through the TikTok community when she announced her divorce from Tate Paul and shared more details about their "soft swinging" lifestyle, which included some of the friends featured in her videos.

The Hulu series depicts the aftermath of the TikTok sex scandal and how it transformed dancing influencers into wealthy mothers.

"The Mormon mom influencers' world crashes when they are caught in a swinging sex scandal that makes headlines worldwide. Their sisterhood is now at risk, as their faith, friendships, and reputations hang in the balance. Will #MomTok survive and continue to challenge the rules, or will this group fall from grace?"

"Mikayla Matthews stated during a confessional interview that while she loves the Mormon church, there are numerous rules that members must adhere to. "We were brought up to be submissive wives who cater to our husbands' every need," she added."

"F--- this," Paul exclaimed before a video montage showcased clips from her TikTok days. "I started MomTok with Whitney [Leavitt], Mayci [Neeley], Mikayla [Matthews], and I."

"Leavitt stated that they are deviating from a tradition and aiming to alter the negative perception of gender roles within the Mormon community."

In a matter of days, the women's social media following exploded from a few million to nine million, thanks to their entertaining group dance routines and relatable comic sketches.

Matthews stated, "It suddenly became a group of them swinging together."

"Everyone has hooked up with, like, everyone," Paul said in a TikTok clip shared in the trailer.

In February 2023, body camera footage revealed the moment when drama reached a tipping point, showing the night Paul was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence charges. He was subsequently charged with aggravated assault (a third-degree felony), two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child (also a third-degree felony), child abuse (a class A misdemeanor), and criminal mischief (a class B misdemeanor).
