Lainey Wilson's first song was written at the age of 9, and she began performing in Walmart aisles before achieving stardom.
Wilson states that she is open to playing in any location.
Country music superstar Lainey Wilson is looking back at her humble beginnings.
At the age of 9, Wilson started her music career by writing her first song. She then worked towards it and would perform in unusual places, such as the aisles of Walmart.
On his late night talk show, Jimmy Fallon asked Wilson, "I’ve heard stories that you used to perform in a Walmart in the aisles."
""I would play in any location that allowed me to, whether it's nursing homes or flatbed trailers," she chuckled."
"My parents would encourage me to sing the song I wrote last week for anyone."
In Baskin, Louisiana, a small town of nearly 200 people, there was a strong emphasis on storytelling. This inspired the native to pursue a career as a songwriter.
Wilson revealed at a young age that her grandmother would print out photos of her and assist her in putting them on CDs to distribute.
"She joked that nobody was interested in buying them, but she was attempting to sell them."
She distributed them like candy during Halloween, giving them to neighbors, friends, family, and anyone who would take them.
She sang "Country Girls Rule" on the late-night talk show, which was from an album she wrote.
During her teenage years, Wilson portrayed Miley Cyrus' renowned Disney character, Hannah Montana, in impersonation.
Since 8th grade, the "Yellowstone" actress has been performing at birthday parties on weekends, wearing a blonde wig like Hannah Montana, up until 12th grade.
"I would begin the performance as Lainey Wilson and then quickly hide behind a tree or whatever was nearby... put on my Hannah Montana costume," she stated.
In August, Wilson honored Cyrus as a Disney Legend at a D23 event in Anaheim, California.
"I was inspired by you to believe in myself and that I, too, could be an ordinary girl living in an extraordinary world. As a result, I would like to dedicate this song to you on behalf of all Hannah Montana fans."
Onstage, Cyrus and Wilson hugged after performing the "Hannah Montana" theme song, "Best of Both Worlds."
Recently, Wilson revealed that she experienced "dark days" in Nashville, Tennessee, prior to her career's success.
For three years, she resided in a Flagstaff bumper-pull camper trailer in her mentor's studio parking lot to reach her current position.
In 2022, Wilson revisited her former home and was overcome with "sadness" as she recalled some of her most difficult moments.
"I feel a sense of hopefulness standing here, but I also feel a little sadness," she said to "Good Morning America" at the time. "There were a lot of dark days for me. I was very lonely. I didn't know hardly anybody in town."
In February 2024, Wilson won her first Grammy for her album "Whirlwind," which accurately portrays her recent experiences.
