Kimberly Williams-Paisley had surgery after losing her voice two years ago, but it never fully returned.
The country star's wife exclaimed, "My voice is sounding so much better!!!"
Kimberly Williams-Paisley disclosed that she recently underwent surgery to fix one of her vocal cords, which she had been struggling with for nearly two years.
On Saturday, the 52-year-old actress, who is married to country star Brad Paisley, posted on Instagram about her "challenging" medical journey and shared a health update.
The "Father of the Bride" star posted a slideshow that began with a selfie of her smiling in a hospital bed with a tube attached to her neck. The second image had a black background and the words "Trigger warning: SCAR (and bad artwork)."
Paisley's brother drew a face over her scar in the photo to make it look like a smile.
"Paisley shared her experience of losing her voice on stage at an Alzheimer's event in Nashville two years ago. She described it as embarrassing, scary, and never fully recovering."
After a difficult period, we were able to solve the issue. I have sustained damage to my laryngeal nerve. Although I have attempted to recover, I kindly request that you refrain from offering any advice.
Williams-Paisley stated that she had a successful surgery at Vanderbilt Health in Nashville, Tennessee, which was performed by skilled surgeons.
"It sounds so much better now," she said. "I have a bad scar that's smiling at me across my neck. (Swipe for the drawing my brother made on top of the image if you can handle it.)"
The actress confessed that she had kept her medical condition a secret because she felt exposed.
"Paisley stated, "I took my ability to 'use my voice' for granted before, but now I've been the quietest in the room. I've felt meek and thought new people saw me as a shy or reserved person. I've felt trapped in my body.""
I've experienced shame and self-loathing, undergone various training, breathing techniques, braces, healing, laughing, crying, and explaining. I've encountered numerous helpful individuals who have become dear friends, and I am immensely grateful.
Paisley remained awake throughout her three-hour laryngoplasty, which aimed to "enlarge my paralyzed vocal cord to strike the other one."
Paisley joked of her intact vocal cord, "She’s so happy not to be doing all the work by herself anymore. She was EXHAUSTED."
"As it unfolded on the video screen above me, I was amazed by the advancements in modern medicine," she exclaimed.
Her medical ordeal resulted in positive changes in her life, as shared by the "According to Jim" alum.
"Over the past two years, I have discovered the power of using my voice in new ways, healing old emotional wounds, learning the strength and beauty of silence, becoming a serious meditator, deadlifting over a hundred pounds, taking better care of my body, managing stress, dissolving shame, and feeling more whole, empowered, and joyful."
Kate Bowler's quote, "If you’re going through hell, don’t come out empty-handed," concluded Paisley's post.
Was it worth losing my voice? Not exactly, she said. Was it worthless? No, she added.
Prior to disclosing her health issues, Paisley had posted about her son William's final year of high school. She is the mother of William and Jasper, whom she shares with her husband Brad, whom she married in 2003.
"The summer of 2024 has ended and this week marks my first year as an HS senior," she wrote alongside a photo of a chair in front of a lake at sunset.
""Wisdom from experienced parents, please!" Paisley exclaimed, wiping away tears."
Recently, the actress and her friend Meghan Markle were spotted at Tre Lune in Montecito, California, for lunch, generating headlines.
"According to People magazine, the pair had a wonderful time chatting and laughing together, and they were able to enjoy their low-key experience without any interruptions from other guests."
