Joanna Gaines shares her son's drinking game on Instagram during a college apartment tour.
Drake, Chip and Joanna's oldest son, is preparing for his second year in college.
This week, while helping her oldest son move into his new apartment, Joanna Gaines learned more about what he had been up to while away at college.
An Instagram story by a former HGTV star featured a video of a device she believed to be an innocent game.
"Mom, this is a drinking game," her son corrected her as she captioned the video, "Ring toss for good ol’ fashion fun."
The tour of the room proceeded with a picture of a refrigerator containing only a bottle of ranch dressing and the caption, "Move-in day at college."
The room's decor was evidently the work of an experienced interior designer, as it was tastefully arranged.
Along with Drake, Joanna and her husband Chip have four other children: Ella, Duke, Emmie, and Crew. They gained fame on HGTV's home renovation show, "Fixer Upper," and have since launched their own lifestyle magazine, a line of home and lifestyle goods, and even their own television network. They have also released cookbooks, home design books, and children's books.
Joanna successfully hid one of her books on her son's bookshelf, jokingly claiming she "sneaked that one in there for variety."
She discovered a way to integrate her son's passion for baseball into the room's decor, by hanging a renowned Babe Ruth quote on the wall that reads, "Do not let the fear of striking out prevent you from playing the game."
In November 2023, Chip and Joanna shared their experience of sending their son off to college and having a 5-year-old toddler, telling People that it was the greatest gift because it gave them a new perspective on parenthood.
"Chip said to People, "Drakey going off to college makes you focus more on Crew, who's at the end of it all. It's hard to believe that time will go by quickly with a 1-year-old, but you're living intentionally because of it.""
He revealed that it motivated him to focus on little Crew and adopt a mindset as if he were preparing for college the next day.
The couple marked their 20th wedding anniversary in November 2023, reflecting on how they have evolved over the past two decades.
As we age, I'm becoming more like Chip, and Chip is becoming more like me, Joanna stated.
