After Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, Alex Rodriguez posted a cryptic message on Instagram.

The retired MLB player said via The Con.cept's Instagram page, "You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction." Rodriguez later reposted the image to his Instagram story, not long after the news of Lopez's filing broke.

The cryptic message in the post is likely relevant and current, even though its intended audience and reference are unclear.

On the two-year anniversary of their Georgia wedding, Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

At the time, Affleck and Lopez's representatives did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.

In April 2021, Rodriguez and Lopez officially ended their engagement, which had begun in 2017 and culminated in an engagement in 2019.

The former couple released a joint statement on "Today."

"We have come to the conclusion that we work better as friends and are excited to maintain this relationship. We plan to collaborate and assist each other in our joint businesses and projects. We wish our children all the best and express our gratitude to those who have offered kind words and support. Out of consideration for them, we have no further comment to make."

Lopez started dating Affleck shortly after their breakup, but Rodriguez held no resentment.

"Rodriguez shared with Entertainment Tonight in a 2021 interview that he had an incredible life and partnership for five years, and he learned so much with his daughters. He is now in a great place and is grateful for where God and the light have placed him. Rodriguez is excited for the future."

In 2022, Affleck, 52, and Lopez, 55, got married in a surprise Las Vegas wedding. A month later, they hosted a backyard ceremony for friends and family at the $8 million Georgia mansion Affleck purchased when the couple first began dating 20 years ago.

Lopez's 55th birthday party in July was a turning point for rumors about her marriage with Affleck, as he did not attend the luxurious "Bridgerton"-themed celebration.

"A source informed Planet Chronicle Digital last month that Ben did not attend Jennifer's birthday celebration because they have ended their relationship. The source stated that Ben is completely done with Jennifer and they are not planning to reunite."

In "The Greatest Love Story Never Told," Affleck was depicted reluctantly dealing with the public scrutiny that accompanied the couple when they first began dating in the early 2000s.

Lopez is featured in a documentary that showcases her work on both her new album and a high-concept music film.

"Affleck stated that Jen was inspired by the experience, which is how artists work. They draw inspiration from their personal lives, which can be emotionally moving. As a writer and director, Affleck also finds inspiration from his personal life, but he considers private matters to be sacred and special due to their personal nature."
