Heidi Feek feels it is her responsibility to prevent history from repeating itself amidst family conflict.
Heidi Feek fears that her sister Indiana, 10, is at risk under her father's care.
Heidi Feek, the daughter of country singer Rory Feek, has decided to take legal action against her father for his parenting of her sister, Indiana.
Rory's oldest daughters, Heidi and Hopie, have expressed their concern about their father putting their 10-year-old sister in "harms way" and shared that he has banned communication between the sisters.
"Heidi stated in an interview with People magazine that this change is devastating for her because they have been in her life since the day she was born and she has even stayed with them once a month for most of her life."
On Saturday, the country singer wrote a lengthy blog post titled "love, dad" and stated that Heidi's accusations against him had "devastated" him.
Rory wrote that she loves her daughters, Heidi and Hopie, deeply and does not want to hurt them, even if they desire to hurt her. This makes her love them even more.
"Now, I realize it’s my duty to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself." — Heidi Feek
Rory and his second wife, Joey Feek, gained popularity as Rory + Joey and welcomed Indiana — Indy — in 2014. Joey passed away from cancer in 2016. Since Indiana's mother's death, Heidi and Hopie have formed a special bond with their sister who has special needs, as stated on their GoFundMe page.
Heidi and Indiana have been close for several years, with Heidi even serving as her flower girl during her wedding in 2018. However, Heidi revealed to People that their bond began to change a few years ago.
Rory forbade Heidi and Hopie from FaceTiming Indiana anymore, as it was their primary means of communication despite living in different states.
Then, text messaging was not allowed.
"Heidi revealed that they supported Rory's decision to cancel her visits to Alabama because they could still communicate with her through phone calls and she continued to visit them in Alabama. However, things became concerning when Rory stopped visiting without rescheduling. Eventually, he prohibited her from doing overnight visits, without providing any explanation. After that, they were only allowed to see her three times: her 10th birthday, one dinner, and the Homestead festival in June - the last time they saw her. Currently, he doesn't allow them to communicate with her through phone calls and won't respond to Heidi's texts."
In his blog post, Rory stated that Indiana is permitted to communicate with her sisters but is not allowed to stay overnight with them. He explained that he holds different "worldviews" than his oldest daughters and wants to protect his youngest from certain things. Additionally, he mentioned that Heidi and Hopie disrespected his wishes when Indiana was present.
"Rory wrote that although Indiana is her daughter, she knows what Joey would want, and she is determined not to compromise her values and principles while raising Indy. She assures her daughter that they will be reunited soon and that she eagerly anticipates that day as much as Indy does."
Heidi shared a message on Instagram after Rory published his blog post.
Heidi presented several slides, focusing on her father, and concluded with, "This is Heidi and Heidi again, love is action. We love our little sister Indiana more than anything in the world, so we are taking action. Love, your daughters."
Heidi revealed in her People interview that she and Hopie learned their mother did not want to be in their lives, but later discovered this wasn't the case.
"Heidi couldn't shake the feeling that the situation with Indy had happened before when she started getting cut off. She found her mom and called her, who had always wanted to be part of their lives and had been waiting to share her story with her. Now, Heidi realizes it's her duty to prevent history from repeating itself."
Rory denied Heidi's claim in his blog post.
"The musician wrote that Heidi and Hopie's life has not been easy, as they spent most of their first fifteen years without a mother and lost the one they finally got to when she passed away young. Although they have recently reconnected with their birth mother, she has shared a different perspective, accusing the musician of keeping them from her. The musician hopes that one day they will give him the chance to share his side of the twenty years he raised them on his own."
Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment from Heidi and Rory was not immediately answered.
